There are virtually no safeguards around Visa and MasterCard. Emphatic agreement about antitrust enforcement. It's crystal clear at this time that market forces don't prevent monopolies.

The US has extremely centralized electronic payments, it's just that the central points are Visa and MasterCard. I'm sure there are philosophical points in favor of decentralized systems, and systems not run by governments, but are we really better off giving 1.5-3% of each transaction to Visa or MasterCard?
I'm against it. I write for humans, not flattery bots that kind of violate copyright, and at the very least encourage uncreative behavior
The writing style of this article, including the headline of the link here on HN, is not very good. The article reads like a LinkedInfluncer post, short paragraphs, possibly just one sentence, or even one impactful word. I will give this article one point for apparently having a human edit the one sentence LinkedInfluencer paragraphs into multiple sentence paragraphs. The headline is in a suspicious "it's not this, it's that" style.
AI isn't destroying headlines, it's making them all the same.

Indeed! Why not? The reason why humans need variables, functions, types, etc are all cognitive limitations of the human brain. "AI" should not be helped by those constraints.
Less ironically, because LLMs need the patterns of human cognition embodied in source. There's just not enough well commented assembly to train LLMs to imitate.
Such letters of marque should have been available for years, but gee whiz, if you want folks to read this, don't use scribd. They make one off downloads impossible.

This isn't needed at all. If "AI" is half as good as we're reliably inform it is, "AI" can write anything you want in any language or combination of languages you want. It's got near infinite short term memory, no 5+-2 working memory limit, no cognitive biases, and it's the worst it's ever going to be.
Straight up imperative language programming would work. No need for crutches like object orientation, structured programming etc etc. Probably no need for any methodology. LLMs can't stand up, as it were, so agile isn't helpful.
Even if he did, so what? Herbert wrote science fiction, which requires some gizmos or technology to at least be different than today's. Any Sci Fi author throws out things to remind readers they're "in the future" or whatever. By dint of writing a lot, prolific authors get some things right.

Our rights clearly come from a social compact. If they came from a god or gods, there would be universal agreement on what those rights are, and they would remain static. Instead, we see disagreement about what rights exist, and who they apply to. They also change over time. Governments regularly violate these rights. God given rights would command more respect, and possibly violations would entail some form of heavenly punishment.
Those categories are bizarre. They're just buzzwords. Nobody in earth is "AI native" at this point, LLMs only appeared 4 or 5 years ago. If I take those categories at their plain meaning, they're still only rating someone's apparent enthusiasm, nothing more. Horrifying.

This is a category of behavior that children exhibit: expressing a feeling, and wanting or assuming that the adult(s) can figure it out. Adults also exhibit it in the form of hinting. Lots of folks just don't understand hinting, and another category of people will read statements as this article describes, as hints.
Clear communication demands avoiding hinting, also enough context to keep the unaware from reading statements as hints.
It's infuriating that the US government has always claimed this sort of thing is impossible, and maybe it's all in your head, anyway. Bribing the congress worked long enough that the PSTN is almost unusable, and that's when private companies take action. But you know that if a profitable enough scam comes along, mysteriously systems won't detect it.
The last programming book I read was "The Go Programming Language". I did type quite a few of the exercises and do some experimenting by changing things in the examples.
I often type example code meant to illustrate a concept or technique in a different language, PHP when the example is in Perk, say, or use SQLite instead of MySQL. Thank s opposed to examples meant to illustrate a particular language's syntax or features. C doesn't have channels, bash doesn't have pointers.

Looking at this blog post, and the history of blog posts from this blog on HN - Goedecke apparently assumes his audience is VP's and CTO's. Goedkecke doesn't quite write the anodyne sound bites that Seth Godin does, but neither does he write anything of engineering use, just vocabulary explainers for people who want to know kind of what their tech leads and line managers are talking about.

Won't AI solve this problem more-or-less immediately? We're already seeing AI-first and AI-native startups that almost certainly only have senior engineers in name only. AI is going to remove this kind of talent limitation quickly, because it's the worst it will ever be right now, and AI can do senior engineer work.
Collectively we are wasting an impressive amount of time waiting for access to websites; time we didn’t spend before the AI era. As a human, time is precious and finite to me, whereas to a robot it is not.
Another sad side-effect of the abysmal ethics of the folks who wrote and run AI-crawlers. They ignored robots.txt, and didn't do any kind of rate limiting, and weren't very good about acknowledging that they were using copyright inputs, so people (justifiably!) implemented some barriers like Anubis. Now we all have to wait for proof-of-work to happen.
If only "AI" people had taken a clue from existing crawlers, we wouldn't all suffer. But since the entire point of "AI" is to render most people obsolete or inefficient, I suppose the imperative is to just go ahead and vacuum up all the text every written 3 or 4 times a day.
Existing high-strength alloys like MP35N are already extraordinarily difficult to machine. The "super alloy" in the story is said to have a compressive yield strength of 2 gigapascals, which is about MP35N tensile yield. Sounds like this "super alloy" isn't that much stronger than existing high strength alloys. It does have some fairly exotic alloying elements, tantalum, niobium and hafnium that probably don't come cheap. This super alloy will be used only in a very few applications.
