As a guy I found this article oddly riveting — the author seems super cool for being so candid. But the “pee slowly” thing had me coming to the comments to learn more: is this something ladies can typically do?

Really interesting to read. So IIUC ambergris is _sometimes_ formed in the 4th (last) sperm whale stomach, is basically a constipatory plug of indigestible squid parts (beaks, quills, and eye lenses) which either eventually passes thru the whale’s anus, ruptures the intestine and kills the whale, or is (was?) harvested on rare occasion by whalers. And if you’re lucky you can find it washed up on beaches.

Interestingly, basketballs are designed to be as standardized and replaceable as possible (so there’s no question about whether they affected the game.) Whereas musicians do not think of instruments that way. Nor photographers and their cameras, etc. The reaction might be specific to artists. They’re represented on HN, but not as much as non-artists, I bet.

I worked at Citrix from 1996 thru 2000. In the early days, Citrix was licensing Windows NT (source code) from Microsoft and selling a modified version of it such that (a) one could remotely control/display Windows apps, and (b) multiple users could do this simultaneously. At a certain point (‘98?) Microsoft announced they would soon offer the same functionality as Citrix, and the stock got crushed. In the end, though, it seemed Microsoft decided the practical thing to do would be to roll their own version of “(a)” (dubbed “RDP”) and license “(b)” (back, as it were) from Citrix. At least I think it was something like that.

How I See Numbers 4 years ago

From a young age I tended to assign gender to the lower numbers, no idea why. It’s roughly an even / odd thing, but not always. For example, 1 is male, 2 is female. 3 male, 4 female, 5m, 6f, 7m, 8f, 9f, 10m, 11m, 12f, …

When I became a dad a few years back I ended up watching a lot of PBS content for kids. I actually really enjoyed Arthur a lot. The art has a nice style, the characters are swell, and it tends to irritate me much less than other kid shows. But for whatever reason my sons (both < 6yrs) adamantly refuse to watch it. Maybe the look is for younger kids but the content is for older kids?
