nice to see this on hn. the dev has just announced[1] start of codebase migration from vb6 to twinbasic which should negate all of the cons described in the article.

xyplorer has been providing partial compatibility with 64-bit windows shells by way of some "sidecar" executables, which act like hosts for 64-bit shell extensions, thumbnailers, and whatnot.

iirc some of these sidecar tools were originally written in autohotkey; now that's another interesting language.

God help you if you want to use Goodreads...

How could anyone support Goodreads seeing as their api is closed off? Thankfully calibre has the goodreads-sync plugin which still works as well as it does.

If you meant the splash screen when it starts up, this can be turned off in the settings.

Otherwise the core app's UI looks fine to me personally, though some of the plugins make some, unusual, choices.

another annoyance is links that open in new tabs. if i want to open a link in a new tab, i can do it myself, websites don't have to decide for me.

brings back memories of ldraw. discovered the multifaceted precision of lego pieces from ldraw wiki and by reading the ldr files.

had only a handful of actual store-bought lego sets, but almost the entire catalog was on my pc, it was amazing.

ldraw+mlcad+ldview: hours of fun!
