Unrelated, but I see the use of the phrase "taste" as having a strong Twitter / e/acc smell (in a negative way).

I tend to associate it with folks who are prepared to victim blame researchers for not adapting to the "new economy" as being people who have "bad taste" or "low agency", maybe as a way to rationalize/justify the upcoming inqeuality that AI will create.

Basically a recycling of the way "IQ"/smarts/hard-work has historically been used to justify disproportionate rewards for the upper class.

(Obviously a gigantic stretch on my part, and not saying the author is in this camp, but just wanted to vent somewhere)

I feel he'd want to rebut the use of an LLM for this task to begin with (i.e. find issues/nitpicks with the LLM judgment whether it said he's right or wrong)

The issue was not the gene therapy itself, but the delivery mechanism. They used a virus to administer the gene therapy, and this virus (like most bloodstream impurities) aggregates in the liver. At low doses this is fine, but at high doses, your body's immune response will be laser-focused on the liver, and you die from the side effects of this response.

Same, ever since AI got big I've started to see typos and signs of amateurism in a positive light. I wonder how long it will be before people start generating slop with typos on purpose so that we think a human wrote it. Maybe we're already there.

That puzzle has two solutions no?

     1 1 1
     1 1 1 2 1
   2 x x . . .
   2 . . x x .
  11 x . . x .
  11 . x . . x
   1 . . x . .
and
     1 1 1
     1 1 1 2 1
   2 x x . . .
   2 . . x x .
  11 . x . x .
  11 x . . . x
   1 . . x . .
(found these with an SMT solver :D)

I have a criticism that is the opposite of the article. We already know an immense amount about animal welfare and have done relatively little about it. Even if the AI welfare research is true, what are the chances we'll actually act on it?

You're ignoring that the average ride on Muni, Bart, or AC Transit involves someone who's visibly or audibly tweaking out, loudly muttering curse words or threats to themselves / others, blasting music in the back from a tinny phone speaker, carrying a bag of cans and/or trash, or smelling offensively bad. It's no wonder that people won't want to take transit.

Source: someone who takes transit almost daily and has seen a LOT, and has received death threats on the bus twice in one year.
