Don't get carried away by marketing of thoughts, few folks prefer to be the mouthpiece of some grandiose concept .. if crazy ideas have followers, it becomes a cult...a cult over to.e becomes religion.

There might be some honesty / truth behind what is described but in my 2 decades of IT work, mostly ass kissers have taken home the big bucks .

In my 2 decades of making livelihood with programming full time job, I have seen CS grads feeling brain dead while a Starbucks barista writing better coding. I am probably more humble observing people over all these years to admit that anyone can be a programmer given the opportunity and the heart / zest to dig deep be thorough with the solution.

The part of recent grads getting job is more related to market conditions, back in 99 recruiter would be happy to hire anyone who have attended the programming 101 while in 2001-2002 no one even wanted to talk to 5 -8 yr experience candidates right after the market crash

Once my Mgr needed to reject a dev who had said something that did not vibe well with another manager, engaged the candidate in another round of tech interview with a L1 candidate who was working as a dev in the same team. (L1 is supposed to be a Mgr but worked as dev to sideline the immigration process). The candidate was asked offbeat Mockito unit test questions with the intention of rejecting. Speak of Hazing, some interviews are setup to reject candidates for the sake of rejecting.

While domestic CS grads can't find jobs , my current manager and other managers who are naturalized citizen want to prefer H1 candidate who are either ethnically alligned or speaking one of their languages. People make fun of having rejected non H1 candidate. Being a naturalized citizen I was hired so I will keep quite with the discrimination and sympathize with H1 as getting job else where is difficult for H1. I did finally file a EEOC case in MD (531-2019-01105) to document the discrimination done by Naturalized citizens. Hopefully when our kids go look for jobs, they don't have to be party to discrimination. If you feel this needs support call a Congress man or senator to take look.

I went thru spine surgery, being diabetic from poor health habits and a sedentary job ... Programming, did not help my situation. It takes time to heal and a stable health is necessary to take interview without looking desperate. Also on a new job, to qualify for FMLA one needs to be atleast with the employer for a year. I would not resign a job, if I was in your shoes.

There had been instances where introverts have learnt to network as they were trying to gain traction for their product or idea. Being introvert should not be a disqualifying criteria for someone from being successful

I could not have said it better. Apart from the immigrant history and technical oriented, my situation is that the Chaddi-dost/butt-buddies are not oriented the same way inregards to making a product or build a company. I feel a minor proportion of the human population happen to have that sort of relationship.

You need a H1-B , no pun, most manager s are so addicted working with H1 or contract ors they humanely don't have the caliber to work with regular folks. I am on a job as FTE, kept out of meetings and information emails for 17 months and accused of not impressing others. When I went around my Mgr, found out my Mgr had explicitly taken my name off the list of people to be informed. Probably you are fortunate not to be in a crazy job. Beauty in the eyes of a beholder... So someone not threatened by your knowledge will hire you.

Stay strong.

For most of us, it is tough to accept when a family member callus choices lead us to disadvantage in life. But the problem of being diabetic, as I have learned from my experience is that it makes it more than twice as hard. Dwelling in the past only feeds into the bad health situation. I have observed the days I kept past the family situation, my sugar levels fared better to the extent that I did not rely on the medicine. Avoid binge eating, try more exercise.

You can only steer life with what you can influence, try to gain influence of your own life, you don't have to be rude. Rome wasn't built in a day, life is like sailing you have to steer slowly and steadily. Hopefully you will do better than me, for I learnt this wisdom have an estranded relationship with my mother for 2 decades to the extent that I did not attend her funeral. Have take hypnosis therapy to move past life decisions that I had no control over. All I can share is my sugar is in much better control.
