It's also great to see the utter mess that DB organization is. I found their live tracking on [1], but it can only be ordered as a product to embed somewhere, they don't show it on their site. Then there is the random https://www.bahnhof.de/, which seems to collect information about train stations. But if you want to schedule your trip or buy a ticket, you'd better get the DB Navigator app, which is not available as a web version. FML.

A fair point, probably only a small % of people on the internet need to actualyl host something. There is some middle ground with federated hosting like write.as , so hosting is not always needed.

Well, the Commission is elected by the elected governments of the member states. In a similar fashion, many heads of state are voted in by the elected government and not directly. Both procedures can be seen as iffy, but for the EU this was a deliberate compromise to get potential members on board.

People complain a lot about the internet getting worse and worse. We can fix it, if we put in the effort to rebuild it.

* Create your own website if you have sth like a cool hobby to share. Webhosting is available for free or cheap, depending on what you want. Link other pages you like to form a net.

* If you can, host your own instances and federate.

* Look into alternative search engines like marginalia to find "small-web" content

* Talk to your friends to also make the move or at least look at alternatives to the large sites.

We can't just wait for the problem to fix itself, this is something where internet users have to become active. It won't solve itself.

EDIT: Commenters here are rightly saying that discoverability is a problem. Again, relying on search engines is required for productivity, but when we consider browsing for research or leisure, don't underestimate manually curated link pages. Webrings were a thing we might wanna consider again.

Is this really a crime? The tool does not redistribute copyrighted material for example. It only reshapes video sent to your device, allowing you to decide which parts to view.

It's about preventing mistakes and everybody makes those. If your company or institution is a target for spies, you want to avoid anything that makes it easy for an attacker.

The main killers of birds are: Cats, cars, glass windows, power lines and pesticides. The amount of birds killed by wind power is tiny in comparison. NIMBYs like to abuse this argument to avoid building wind farms while not caring for birds at all.
