Usually subtitles are not that hard to find.

Unfortunately i don't have the luxury to watch a lot of shows during the week. Usually the max is around 5 or so. Call me strange, but sometimes i actually like it that i forget what i was watching. Makes me kinda of realise it's still a little luxury leisure. Usually i get happy when i realise there's more show to watch (happened with Foundation). Or i keep ignoring it, because interest was lost over time (happened with Rick and Morty). The kids tend to watch a series back to front and then ignore it completely once they lose interest.

This is not a rant or an attack on you. I get the point of easyness that Plex and/or Jellyfin offer. I merely would like to explain why i do not need it. I tried both Jellyfin and Plex, but i could not find a huge benefit in using them in our household. Again, not a rant.

I think it's an extra layer on top of things i do not need. I do not need cover art, descriptions or trailers. The smb shares have a folder hierarchy that's very logical and easy to our household so sorting and reindexing is not needed. Kodi (Windows,Linux, Android) keeps track of where i was, but i don't really care that much. Usually i remember what i was watching. File Explorer Pro (paid version) on IOS plays anything. I do not need transcoding, because all the players can play anything i throw at it. My wife and kids know how to use Kodi both on the pcs and the chromecasts.

Mp3's go to a Sonos at the moment. If more mp3 devices would be needed in the future, i'm kinda curious about the CrowdSupply Esparagus systems [1][2]

Machines and processes like the internet barely want things. People and companies who abuse it want things, which has eventually the same effect on other people and companies.

Sugar ( in all its names and molecular forms ) is evil, because of the vast amount it is in processed food products. Eggs and fat not so much. But they would be if that is the next ‘cheap molecule to make processed food cheap’.

All my windows computers are shutdown when not needed.

My Debian 13 mini 'server' is on 24/7, conserves energy as much as possible (like CPU C8 state), but reboots nightly when required by patches and updates.

My NAS only really on when absolutely necessary, but can be activated using wake-on-lan.

So yes, i restart things quite frequently :)

I built a PirateBox with an old Asus access point once. It was a bit of a dissapointing experience. Mostly because people were scared to access an open wifi point. Plus it did not 'give one free internet' so people usually immediately disconnected. Unfortunately the Library Box mod is also no longer an active project.

I hear you. I've had laptops where one could not even install the Windows 11 OS on using the official Windows 11 ISO on a bootable usb key, because there was this weird nvme driver required. Which required you to make an additional usb key (of modify your bootable usb key) with the weird nvme driver to load during Windows 11 setup. Luckily the top brands (HP, Dell, Lenovo) have pretty good support asssistant software for once you got Windows 11 running with internet those tools will install the rest for you.

You do not need to disable network interface cards. Just do not connect a network cable and do not connect to a wifi ssid.

You also do not need to supply a password for the new local user account. It will now automatically login and have local admin rights.

Heroic Launcher is awesome on the Steam Deck

I dunno. I never got the hang of what the hell to do with a netbook or netbook likes. I have old Surface 3 tablets, Lenovo Yogo, small HP, Acer and other notebooks.

All have this "not enough" vibe to me. They are cute, but have no performance and no purpose my iPhone can't fullfil. Maybe because i never work on documents, sheets or listings while i'm commuting or traveling. I do work on those when at work or at home, on a ProBook. But never while on the road or something. I do refurbish old HP ProBooks whenever i can get my hands on them (or Dell, Lenovo equivalent) by putting in more ram and more capacity nvme. Sometimes even upgrading the wifi board. This works for me. ProBooks are nice. Not that heavy, pretty upgradable (except CPU/GPU) and full size keyboards. It's amazing what people sometimes throw away.

I do not need any of the three, so i will not pay.

True, a lot of other people i know, including family and corpo, use Whatsapp. I will not pay to stay in contact with them. They can go back to sms or email if they want to. Or pay for me.

I can understand the passion and research for innovation and improvement. I can understand trying to earn even more money with your research and investment.

I cannot understand that when there is SO much suffering in the world that can relatively easy be solved by throwing a few billion dollars in it that one can justify spending billions in things people do not want.

The man can be the best inhabitant earth has ever known by massively funding research for good clean water, correct waste disposal, clean energy and good food for all of us. Maybe even make a profit of it! But he decides to put his massive resources in virtual reality...

At least spend a fraction of your money to give every poor woman a Divya Washing Machine[1] so that they have more time to do other things, perhaps even improving your stupid Metaverse for you.

What kind of a very sad human being must one be when you have almost all the money in the world and continue to do very stupid things with it. In my experience the people who scream and threaten the loudest kinda acknowledge the problems.
