Nearly everything in this article is too simple to be correct, or depends on details of your specific plan that is not generalizable. Two examples: ESPP is considered long term capital gains after the later date of 1 year after purchase OR 2 years from the date of the price you paid. Also typically the look back is the lower of the starting and ending price for a period, not lowest in the period.

The only way to provide simple advice on RSUs and ESPP is, as others have said:

Sell them immediately and diversify.

For everything else do research and don't trust a random article, coworker, or HN comment (mine included)

Android: Netrunner was a partnership between Fantasy Flight Games' Android (who is now owned by someone else I think) and Wizard of the Coast's Netrunner.

Not quite the same but the Netrunner card game is an assymetric hacker vs corp game. It's... being revived via community support and has an active online scene I believe.

You misunderstand slightly. All the calls from the area code matching your phone number are more likely to be spam (spammers matching you to appear legit). So unless you call people in that particular area, you won't be matching their area code, so you won't look like a spammer. And unless you happen to know a lot of people in that area, you won't get calls from that area that appear to be spam.

I don't have their cash account but I set up repeat bimonthly transfers of a set amount from my checking account easy enough.

Interesting thoughts from gargron. I can understand the desire to reduce confusion for end users even if I don't agree with the decision. I think the issue is with communicating what the local feee is. In my personal opinion the federated timeline is close to useless near instantly, but local is not.

Perhaps there really is no way to rebrand "local" to something users understand, but that feels a bit defeatist.

I think I would be more... ok with his statement if it was not the official app? If it was gargron's mastodon app, not "the" mastodon app. One represents the community, one represents his specific vision. But then again he is the majority driver of this product. But to not support large features of the main product in the flagship mobile app feels like a setback. _shrug_ sadly I don't use the product much anymore regardless so this is all just mental spewing at this point.

I'm surprised to see the iOS app ship without a local/federated stream. The local stream especially seems central to the communities that are built with mastodon.

The economist cancellation process is an email last time I did it (I subscribe in spurts). Not as ideal as a button but not as egregious as requiring a phone call or something.

Got it, so it seems like the contract is just heavily skewed in favor of Amazon, where the content is subsidizing all of the deals and discounts that Audible provides. Although how they can get a 0% royalty on certain sales in is baffling to me.

Yeah, they sadly seem to be lacking in meaningful competition. People on twitter are talking about libro.fm which has a slew of anti-audible articles, although I can't find any details on their reimbursements either.

Yeah, this was my issue with all I could find so far. It seems like 'working as designed'. Perhaps those who publish on audible would like to be able to opt in or out of various sales/credits etc but as a customer I prefer that I can get anything with a credit.

Is that all credits in the system (similar to how Spotify was weighting streaming subscriptions (to my understanding)), or per user. I would prefer the money from my credits to go to the books I purchase, not be weighted with purchases by all other users.

The twitter thread and the accompanying website don't quite tell me what's going on besides 'not as much money as expected'. But I can't quite see what the 'Net Sales' problem is, it's just stated as "less money" for no reason? Although I am tired so maybe something just isn't clicking. I don't doubt that the terms of the deal are poor though.

I had wondered for a while how the credit system worked, and if the increase in sales made up for the 'deal' off audiobooks. I get $50-$60 audiobooks for $15, there's something mismatched there. Either the audiobook was priced at an extreme premium, or, it seems, Amazon just isn't paying the price I would expect.

Edit: I found one response from an author that I think makes a simple point, if not perhaps what the thread describes (still can't tell). Which makes sense to me, as there's purchases and credits and various subscription tiers and audible unlimited and these are just the things I can think up off the top of my head. But again, I would buy a small fraction of the audiobooks I have purchased at full price.

The schadenfreude is real for me seeing this. A company like Zillow getting into flipping seems questionable to me. The customers are no longer aligned with the company on goals with something like this. It's like when the realtor offers to buy your house... they obviously feel like they can make more than you, when they're supposed to represent you!

Edit 2: What I'm surprised at as well is how short-term their forecasting seemed to be. They just started doing this and the market cooled a tiny bit (also, what? where?) and they're selling everything off? Were they incapable of sustaining anything but massive constant growth?

You can make spatial audio work with headphones, as those various fun YouTube demos show. Furthermore Apple's headphones have support for it including directional audio support. If you haven't tried it it's pretty spectacular, with the only downside being the sound so convincingly seems to be coming from my iPad I need to verify that I am in fact sending the audio to my airpods.

Tweetbot has moved to a subscription model as well in the latest version.

I used to listen to them as well! I do prefer less lyrics, or more rhythmic lyrics, but I can do normal music as well, personally. That specific example of why it was a problem just amused me.
