It's the right of every open source software author to continue working on their software privately under a different license, and that's exactly what happened here.

Yep, and nobody had any qualms about it in this thread, which is why I find such posts to be tiresome to read.

Just because you are not happy that you don't have access to their software for free any more doesn't mean it's against the open source spirit.

This is exactly what I'm complaining about, I never said I wasn't happy.

Hey, listen, the company is putting a lot of effort into pfSense for which they are not paid.

And? pfsense uses thousands of packages that they don't pay for either, that's the spirit of open source, I can't understand who post this on HN without understanding it.

@dang: Can we ban these comments? Lately they arrive like clockwork and bring very little to the comments, especially since it doesn't seem to be talking about anyone here.

edit: at the time of this comment I can't find any top post complaining like the OP is describing.

And there was next to zero depiction of his sexuality when he was a famous gay martyr.

I'll say it, but the movie was straight up homophobic, the whole plot about him being blackmailed about being gay and that he yielded to it is just prejudiced, implying he cared more about himself than the war effort (it never happened in real life).

Why is the EU regulating privacy topics to the point were we no longer have access to certain social media products, while they are also pushing for backdoors into private messengers?

Backdoors are from national governments (Macron in France, Sunak in UK). Privacy stuff is usually from the EU parliament, elected by people proportionally but cannot propose laws, only vote on them.

But I would say this result is probably a byproduct of whatever namespacing/containerisation Google is doing, rather than an intentional effort to prevent users from changing the root CAs even as root.

Technology is very convenient when it's complex enough to find an excuse to fit your business objective (see manifest v3).

I really like this, it's such a fun idea and usually those never see the light of day so kudos for you to bring it to life, twice! Bringing your computer to a LAN was just annoying IMO.

I was curious maybe if you had some thoughts on the more social aspects of the project? Did you feel it made it easier to hang out on a whim for example?

Inkscape 1.3 3 years ago

I love Inkscape so much, thank you and all of the team for this release :)

You can also be Bi, Pansexual, Asexual, Queer, etc

"In 2021, Ipsos interviewed people in 27 countries spanning all continents on their sexual orientation and gender identity. For some countries the samples were weighed for representativity, but in others with less internet access, they skewed more urban. In this survey, 80% of people worldwide identified as heterosexual, 3% as homosexual, 4% as bisexual, and 1% each as pansexual, asexual, and other. Results indicated that significant differences in sexual identity have emerged between generations across the globe, with the youngest group, or Generation Z, being more likely to identify as bisexual (9%) than Millennials (4%), Generation X (3%) and Boomers (2%). Generation Z and Millennials were also more likely to identify as homosexual, with 4% and 3% doing so respectively, compared to 2% of Generation X and 1% of Boomers."

I mean, from the same article you have, they bring up the same point I did:

While undoubtedly there is some link between alcohol and drugs and domestic abuse, this research should be treated with some caution, said Dame Vera Baird, victims' commissioner for England and Wales. She said: "Many perpetrators who commit domestic violence while drunk will also be violent and controlling while sober. "And many perpetrators of domestic violence and coercive control do not have a drink or drug problem, and therefore it would be a mistake to divert resources from domestic violence perpetrator programmes to tackling drink and drugs misuse."

That's awesome!

The Wikipedia article was a bit light on her personality and life outside of hiking, how was she like? It sounded like she had a strong personality and didn't take no for an answer, but I'm also curious about the poetry she wrote and what was her general outlook in life. She seemed like she was very smart.

Location is important to keep in mind, I lived in a few European countries and while women were indeed more attracted to taller men, it wasn’t a dealbreaker either. Having a good character really does go a long way.

If it’s enough calories and roof other your head… Then we have very few true poor. Especially if we don’t include those who are there due to choice and/or mental illness.

I mean if we are only using the most convenient definition it's easy to say we have few poor people. If you are eating only rice everyday in your rusting trailer somewhere in the Midwest, you're poor.

And yeah, when that happens, your mental health is not going to be great.

I think it will be commonplace to virtually walk around in movie scenes turned into 3d scenery by AI by the end of next year.

I would take the opposite bet, I doubt most movies have complete enough 3D scene to be AI enhanced, let alone something good enough to walk around, you wouldn't model what you won't film after all and nobody wants to see hallucinated aliens in middle earth.

And to be real, the wonderful smell acts on your parasympathic nervous system because of appetite, for the smell is associated with roasted food. Add to that the childish reflex of sucking on a nipple. So it is pretty much an eating disorder, in my humble opinion.

Even Freud once said "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar". There is no scientific basis for the whole "oral fixation", so calling it "childish" is pretty ignorant.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_stage

Edit: "Contradicting the Freudian psychosexual development concept of oral-stage fixation, the Duration of Breast-feeding and the Incidence of Smoking (2003) study of 87 participants reported no causal relation between the breast-feeding period and whether or not a child matures into a person who smokes."

Streaming yourself in a hot tub playing with an inflatable ball is a job? Then it's softcore porn, at best.

If you're not doing it for your own enjoyment, it quickly becomes a job, just like ... porn.

Besides, you're glossing over all the interaction with the audience which is very much the work part.

I agree this site gives good useful information, but what if new glues come out on the market? What if a YouTube channel comes out comparing and testing glues?

All good questions, but shame that google answer to that is "surely a Wordpress blog called 2022-glue-boss.com made in the last year has all those answers!"

An open source board game simulator is nice and this project looks quite far along, but I wonder if it makes sense to make it physics based, by far this is the worst aspect of Tabletop simulator (the paid game) and it makes it really hard to play if you have any kind of impairment (visual, motor, etc).

Which is kinda sad, because turn by turn board games are the best for those kind of players, but there are no open source 2D board game software that I know of.

I'm not disabled, but it was just as painful for me to play on TTS anyway so I don't really understand the appeal.

I don't know how old you are, but anyway it seems you are starting with a pretty good crowd, if you're not ugly, androgynous (sought after) and dating in an understanding pool, which is your own orientation. I see where you are coming from but it doesn't seem like it warranted the blanket dismissal you started with.

For what it's worth I found a blog post referring to that phenomenon from a few years ago which talks about a poll conducted in Glamour Magazine: https://web.archive.org/web/20160320094402/https://www.pride...
