Thanks for the link on the washing machine patents, I'm going to add that to the post. And I was actually going to mention the Dyson, until I saw that they had been discontinued due to lack of profitability.

I didn't click on your link, but that looks like a good alternative to using a standard washing machine.

I know you're being facetious, but I'd argue that's exactly the type of problem that we should look at solving. And admittedly there was a ton of hand waving around my potential solution, but ultrasonic cleaning techniques have been around for years, it's not impossible to think that the techniques could be applied to clothing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultrasonic_cleaner).

Maybe the nanobots were a bit out there, though. :)

Nice, I've been doing the same for the past few years on my blog (http://astartupaday.com) as well. Definitely a good way to get some creative ideas flowing and to get the bad ones out of your head as quickly as possible.

Earlier this week I kicked off Italian Graffiti Factory, which is an overly-pretentious name for a site that is focused on bringing together co-founders and helping them to get and stay motivated. For the alpha stage, the site is going to be very specifically focused on helping co-founders to come together to build a prototype and submit a killer application for YC Winter 2010.

Strange, I just tried to register as as new user and the only options were for username, password, and birthday. I think b-day is mandatory for legal reasons around online child protection laws.

Thanks for the feedback. I think of this less as a "dating site", but more of a filter to help bring together like-minded people who are interested in accomplishing the same or similar goals. Similar to how gdgt brings people together based on the gadgets they own/want, I'd like to bring people together based on ideas they have. Things like the speed-dating stuff would just be ways to accelerate some of those connections that would have eventually happened organically.

And yes, Ning is not ideal. But for now, I want to put the maximum effort on having great conversations and getting the right people together rather than having the best technological solution. Depending on the feedback I get and the needs of the users, moving off Ning could definitely be a future move.
