Not only do we need right to repair legislation across North America (and the world), but we also need right to continue using - as in - they fold, the code (e.g. licensing server) becomes open source, or something similar, so people can continue to use these products.

A few thoughts.

1 - do it. Absolutely do it.

2 - I love being around first time entrepreneurs- they don’t know about the bumps ahead in the journey so they just plough through. This is a great thing. Once you’ve ploughed through, you learn about all of this and it either causes you to be too afraid to do another, or to try to warn everyone else off by describing how impossible it is (doesn’t work and doesn’t help), or you get the bug and keep building more and more. 3) You’ve identified what seems like an awesome opportunity. Go chase it. Don’t spend too much time talking. Endless talk is the death of entrepreneurial endeavors. Do more talk less. Sounds like a super fun opportunity during which you’ll learn so much along the way.

4) Two entrepreneur credos:

A) when you see an opportunity the door is already closing. Get moving. Did I mention more talk less do?

B) the universe is interesting. The moment you start on an endeavor, the people you need to be successful just come out of the woodwork. It’s like you become attuned to the universe. Just gotta pay attention. Sorry - sounds preachy, but I’ve found it to be true over and over again. It’s like they find you through the cosmos.

Don’t listen to the naysayers. Those who say it can’t be done should stand aside for those who are doing it.

It’s interesting. I had not heard the latest. Their initial videos looked promising.

I ordered a rabbit r1. I can see it’s missing some key functionality (Bluetooth for headphones so everyone doesn’t have to hear?) But… I think it’s an example of a first, promising, step to the era of real voice assistants/agents.

I would counter that voice assistants are not a failed experiment. I would suggest that Amazon and Google’s execution of said experiments have failed.

I am extremely excited about the potential of projects like the Rabbit R1 and Humane.

Had someone reach out to me from a very cool company and ask if I might be interested in joining them. Interviewed... Found out the guy who hired me was really looking for his new boss... now I run the Platform and Data Engineering groups at this company, and he's one of my directs, and we are having an immense amount of fun. Landed in a company with an incredible mission (Software for Youth Sports), and couldn't be happier.

Yah. In reading more, it appears centered a lot around emergency alerting infrastructure.

One might suspect that this is the real reason they are pushing it?

We need to MAKE SURE that AI as a technology ISN'T controlled by a small number of powerful corporations with connections to governments.

This, absolutely this. I am really concerned about his motives in this case. AI has massive potential to improve the world. I find it highly suspicious that an exec at one of the lead companies in AI right now wants to lock it up. (Ever read the intro to Max Tegmarks book?)

But that's not really true. Across Canada and the US there is intense social pressure - especially with the person taking the transaction watching one tip. I fell for this for a long time, but gave up after the local corner stores all started adding tips. You can see the annoyed looks, even though - for some I asked if they even see the tips and was told no - it goes to the company.

After that I gave up and no longer tip. I also, interestingly, as a side effect, just stopped eating out.

I saw that the feds are trying to pass a junk fees law (primarily targeted at resort fees and the like). I fully support this legislation as well.

IMHO - people (companies/orgs) have become so greedy of recent, its interesting.

Recognizing the ability of these entities to hire great cryptographers, what’s the possibility they found a shortcut or vulnerability in the algorithm (or set thereof) itself?

Ugh. We war-roomed, and subsequently kicked off a big project this morning to replace most, if not all, docker in our infrastructure and dev systems with podman.

The first messaging clearly read to me that they would delete everything (including images), the second just seems like they backtracked internally despite claiming a different meaning for the original message.

I have lost trust in this company.
