Quantum RNG 2 years ago

A high-performance quantum-inspired random number generator that leverages quantum mechanical principles in classical computing environments. This library simulates quantum phenomena on classical hardware to generate high-quality random numbers with proven entropy characteristics.

the last article "Calling All Hackers" touches on this. There are still plentiful communities and resources outside of the mainstream internet. A lot of what I personally refer to as the "real internet" are these smaller indie sites and communities.

I am often skeptical of innovations in cryptography, could any crypto experts snuff this one out? The OP claims it is superior to RSA but hasn't necessarily verified these claims.

"A few days ago, another sensationalist news story emerged, promising new clues regarding the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto: Allegedly, an old message signed by Hal Finney had surfaced (published by Martin Shkreli in [this] blog post), suggesting that Paul Le Roux was the person behind the synonym of Satoshi Nakamoto."

Yep, this is how I spent High School, although I did have prior interest in computers. I started tinkering with Debian on a hand-me-down HP pavilion and ended with a ThinkPad T60 with Arch. Developed a lot of skills that helped me get started in my career.

If you dig a lot you will find a footprint. There is evidence that there was a small core team and that satoshi may not be a single person, if it is, he is most likely to be Wei Dai. The other likely alternative is of course the hypothetical state-backed actor.

i don't get why a lot of people in tech want to be more computer than person. it seems people tend to forget that our role as PEOPLE in an organization of PEOPLE is to do deliver solutions for PEOPLE. a little bit of psychological screening to determine someone's' personality to see if they're a good fit for the department/corporate culture is not necessarily "weird" or off-putting or a net negative in many ways. i received a very similar test interviewing for my first "real" job nearly 10 years ago.

Not necessarily OpenAI GPT powered, but local LLMs have gotten pretty good over the past few weeks. I am most interested in using an LLM for automation with tools like AutoGPT and Godmode.space.

I prefer using an LLM locally if possible since it gives me more control and I don't have to worry about the additional cost or OpenAIs infrastructure being under load.

Both SRE and DevOps are essentially evolved sysadmin roles. The DevOps philosophy is cross-functional and many sysadmins have adopted a DevOps approach. The latest edition of the classic sysadmin book "The Practice of System and Network Administration" is now centered around DevOps.

I worked for the computer store on my University's campus during the initial rollout of Win 10. Many such cases. There were also TOO many instances of Dell computers doing a BIOS update in the background and booting to bitlocker because the drives come from factory encrypted.

I'll definitely check out Headscale, I have similar infrastructure setup with pfsense running wg on a VPS that connects to my pfsense box at home. I have other VPS that connect to the cloud pfsense box and routes setup to the home box so I essentially have an extended LAN. This seems promising as it will remove the pain of configuring additional clients.

doesn't take paragraphs to explain this. you invest better by remaining emotionally attached from your investments. if you've invested well over the past 5 or so years you should be sitting on a nice pile of cash. spend it. the dollar is strong, inflation is at an incredibly high level. don't just waste it all, treat yourself to something nice. if you haven't been invested over the past few years, you should devise a plan for doing so as a bear market/market downturns are the best times to invest.

Oh, I have plenty. Like not continuing to mine bitcoin circa 2010 while I was in high school, and then not buying a ton of bitcoin between 2014-2016 and then losing over 2 BTC in 2017.

Then there's the fact that I decided to go to a state school because I was entering with a decent amount of credits and entered a special program for tuition assistance (it sucked). Dropped out (which I also regret).

I regret not accepting the NSA's cooperative education program when offered.

I regret not deciding to live with my mother when my parents divorced.

I regret taking on a job with a ~3 hour commute as my first gig.

Should I keep going?

As briefly referenced in the article SushiSwap was able to steal roughly $1B liquidity from the Uniswap platform by taking their users and offering various incentives for them to move their funds

they most likely won’t. hence the need to have users scrape the TL. “content creators” refer to the smaller creators and micro celebrities with a decent twitter audience that would be likely to follow such a scheme

that’s the entire point. this scheme would not be possible without some sort of technology to distribute value to users in an automated fashion. it would take a significant amount of capital to take over twitter if you wanted to implement such a scheme and deliver payouts in fiat. it would never work. this is about a hostile take over of a company in a short period of time with a relatively small capital investment.

i think a better way is to forgo the browser extension and simply pull a users timeline via the twitter API. Only grab tweets within the past 30mins to an hour (this interval is arbitrary but can most likely be optimized) as to prevent spam

Thank You HN 4 years ago

What a great post. I come from a place where there are threads along the lines of "ITT: We talk like we're on Hacker News". I too came across HN when I was young (13 or 14) but it would be nearly 10 years before I became an active user. Wonderful place. Some of the best tech related convos outside of the IRC and Discord information silos and certainly one of the best news sources.
