I have a HD TV from 2007 and I still vividly remember having to convert videos to a certain format because it was so picky. IIRC it only played .mp4, most of the movies I had on my external drive back then were .mkv and maybe some .avi , so almost nothing played

did you mean Slim, the PHP framework? When I google 'slime framework' i get some machine learning stuff
As a junior I am glad I happened to start working with PHP on version 7. I had some peeks at our legacy PHP5 stuff (all killed now thankfully) and it looked very different. I am sure it would suck to work with.
I hate the vents on my work macbook, when I rest it on my lap, the edges dig into my thighs and leave imprints. One time after getting in the flow, I didn't notice how it was cutting into my flesh and ended up with a bruise
why spend my tokens on it if someone else already did?
I have had similar thoughts recently when attending language courses where I write a lot of notes by hand. This problem is exacerbated by umlauts. If the language doesn't have letters like ō (are there any? i only see this letter to represent a sound, never in a word), then the two dots can be replaced with a line and so, I guess, the lowercase T technique from the blog post could be adapted to it. I think I know what I am gonna do after work today
TIL OpenBSD doesn't have jails
I think Shrek would be pro open source software and hardware if he knew what it was, so this makes it HN worthy
they run ads in the current World Cup for example, greatly increasing their exposure I reckon. Although might not matter, I am assuming they do not operate outside of North America
thanks, now I will never be able to stop noticing this when watching anything in English
when i will be extremely bored, I think I will make two models play chess against each other. I bet there's a chess benchmark / llm tournament already somewhere
I guess this resource is relevant to the topic at hand. It lists games and whether you can play and complete them fully from disc without an internet connection
On PC you can fight this by buying from GOG DRM-free digital storefront or the second more sinister option
When a Sony studio Insomniac Games were hacked and a lot of internal documents were leaked, there were statistics for Sony's first party titles and their sales stats and what the split was between physical and digital sales[0] and for some of the titles, they sold mostly physical compared to digital. Apologies for poor quality, couldn't find a better image
in europe it's often cheaper to buy a game new in box from the retailer than from the PS Store. Not for long maybe. I will mourn the loss of physical games as they are such a big part of console experience
Windows PC/laptop though.
needs to be noted that it's increasingly uncommon to be able to do so. for desktops you have to build everything yourself - prebuilds (either gaming or workstations) have proprietary PSU and motherboards (in case of workstations, sometimes CPU is bound to the motherboard / manufacturer, for example Threadrippers). Windows laptops now often come with soldered RAM and soon will probably be without M.2 slots like Macs.
There is Framework though I guess
google IEM. Decent sound quality is very accessible, I have 20 dollar aliexpress Tangzu Wan'er and I prefer them to my airpods pro 3 for pure music listening
in-ear monitors rely on you having a good seal in the ear to sound good. I wouldn't be surprised if ANC works worse if the tips didn't seal well
any reason to go with the Pro versus Air if power is not a requirement? Screen quality / number of ports?
Current MBPs are such a delight, I really don't want to think about a thinner MBP again, I just get shivers remembering the Ive butterfly keyboard models
Really? I didn't know he was sick
Is 'ment' a word? I had 'went' and wrote 'ment' on a whim and it accepted it and I was quite surprised.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ment
according to Merriam-Webster it's only a suffix
Yeah I agree with micro transaction and obsolescence. It's sad that Valve revived PC gaming while also making it worse (they invented battle passes, lootboxes and DRM), I, nevertheless, still love their games (I keep playing L4D2 to this day with my friends) and TF2 was my favorite multiplayer game
Final Fantasy 7 Remake games (one of the best modern RPGs with amazing combat and extension / sequel of the iconic PS1 RPG)
Balatro (roguelite game with poker cards, very addicting)
SIGNALIS (isometric shooter with puzzles ala Silent Hill)
A Space for the Unbound (beautiful story driven sidescroller set in rural Indonesia, great OST and pixel art)
Dredge (lovecraftian horror fishing game, pleasant gameplay loop and fun mechanics, even my mom who doesn't like video games liked it).
Sword of the Sea (just play this one, same creators as Journey)
Call of the Sea (first person lovecraftian puzzle game)
and some older ones from pre 2020:
Nier: Automata, Death Stranding
Crime and Punishment is one of the very few school curriculum mandatory books that I enjoyed reading and actively got ahead of the required per week pages.
very few modern games, if any, are worth purchasing for my own enjoyment
Side question, do you happen to play games that don't have a gun or a ball in it? I always hear people say these things about modern games and it's almost always turns out to be people who play call of duty , sports games and maybe they have played something like assassin's creed or a racing game once in a while, and have never played any indie or non AAA games or anything that isn't made in USA or Japan. I agree there's a lot of dreadful about the gaming industry right now, but there are so many games worth playing that it's just sad to read stuff like this
Didn't even read the article, first thing I did was go to comments and Ctrl+F "Canonical". Seeing several results light up was really amusing and validating. What a truly awful hiring process
well the whole point of AVP, at least to me and many others, is the AR functionality , being able to walk around your house and having virtual screens in every room. Stuff like that. You would want full colour for that I think
Last time I needed a couple thousand in cash, I had to fill out a paper form stating what I will do with the money. One time I told them "I will party in my home country" and they denied
yes, I have to apply in advance if I want to withdraw large amounts of cash and it has to be approved.
