Love this idea! Have felt the problem myself and have seen my mother/MIL/wife struggle with the same thing.

It's clear that you both have extensive experience in the space, too.

How can I help / get involved? :-)

Amazon Flex 11 years ago

I live in Baltimore (after NYC, SF, Boston). Love it here. Downvoted your comment because it is uninformed and adds nothing of value.

Could you elaborate on your experiences of building out an ad sales program/team?

How much traffic did you have when you started selling ads? What type of CPM are you able to see?

The reason I ask is that I run a niche community site that gets a decent amount of pageviews but I'm not sure how much I could make by selling ads against it.

Yeah I should have clarified. I actually do have a handful of smart advisors that have helped me out a great deal. I probably wouldn't have any chance of succeeding if I didn't have their help along the way.

I also have competitors' SEC filings, my usage/conversion stats, etc. that guide me in the right direction at a granular, day to day level.

But I've been reading PG's essays for some time, and wanted to see what he'd think. I definitely don't think a 5 min convo would have an adverse "affect" [sic].

It's good with niche questions that only a human could help with. I've had luck with social questions ("where's the yscraper located?") and tech questions ("why's my jscript [code here] breaking in IE6?"). It's like stackoverflow, but "real-time" and not limited to coding questions only.

Would this be considered a public stock offering? I remember learning in class that this sort of stuff (seeking funding publicly on the web) may result in some legal trouble. I may be wrong though.

I think the issue is that often tech company founders / management have preferred shares and therefore greater voting rights than general common stock shareholders. So even if a large group of common shareholders wanted to see dividends, they wouldn't have much authority.

I may be wrong though, I'm just starting to learn more about corporate finance.
