I know a few people (no programmers) who "container" their food at night. Which means they steal still eatable stuff from the trash containers of stores, so they don't have to pay for food at all.

I also have a friend who lived in the basement of a guy with the alzheimers (no, the guy didn't forget that there was someone living in the basement for free). Some relatives told him, he can live there for free, if he looks after the alzheimers guy every day.

So if you find some sick people to look after, for free living and go out one or two nights a week and container for food, you cam live without a job or money at all.

Health insurance could be a problem in most countries, I guess. Where I live everyone get's it for free, so it's none of our concern...

If you're lucky, the sick person you're looking after has an Internet connection you can use. Otherwise you're have to search for open WiFi in the cities.

That's a two-edged sword.

If I rely on an API, which abstracts everything, I benefit of every performance improvements they make "under the hood".

If they are better with performance than me, I win. If I'm better with performance than them, I lose.

Funny thing is, I use JavaScript libs like Ext JS because they don't impose HTML/CSS on me.

I can write the whole application in JavaScript and I just have to mess with the DOM and it's ugly friends when in trouble.

For most users the bookmarks seem to be broken/too complex. Never had the problem, maybe because I'm going crazy when I got over 10 tabs and want to get rid of them ASAP. :\

That's the trick.

If you live in a (bigger) city you simply don't need a car...

I can drive to the store by bike or even walk there if I want.

I work in a different city than I live and travel to my workplace by train in 30min.

The only things I need a car for are travels to are tiny town which doesn't have good public transports or when I need to transport something thats to heavy to carry.

Cognitive load comes from "Cognitive Load Theory" (by Sweller), which is a specific field in Psychology.

Psychologist told me, "Multimedia Learning" (by Mayer) is taken more seriously by psychologist than "Cognitive Load Theory".

They hate IE SO much, they even made the drop a new major release.

But yes, I use it for corporate software, since my company pays the license. Also it's strong in the table and charting parts, which are the butter and bread of many corporate devs.

I felt that ExtJS4s MVC concept was easier to grasp than Angular. But I had to replace parts of it with DeftJS to get it to do what I wanted.

Also you can make the decision on your own.

I'm from Stuttgart, made my B.Sc. in 2011 and make about $5500 (~4220€) am month as a GUI-Dev. When I read the "IT-Payment" polls in the news I get the impression this isn't nearly as much as it could be. :D

I still think learning shouldn't slowed down by stuff like this.

If someone writes about quantum mechanics and is a sexist, but he's the only one who can write it in a manner that I understand it, I'm SO gonna read it...

In Germany there are plenty research-jobs, but most of them in civil service, so no CS-PhD want it. The industry just pays much better.

Last year there was something in the news about the payment of professors, which was about $5000 a month. This is an entry level pay of a software developer (without Master or PhD) in Germany.

Maybe about 2.000 people don't know jQuery IS JavaScript...

My experience with parents was, that they became more serios about their career. But I can't say they became really good at their job.

Probably they became better than they were before, but not as good as I wished them to be...

Anyway, I don't like to work with people when they get to serious about stuff.
