To clarify, this not a policy but a design choice and an intent of one PM :D I cannot speak for the actual company policy because we are at an exploration phase.

I work at Automattic as well and love P2s to the point that I changed my internal work title to "Accomplished P2 author".

I love how:

- They are async by default

- Incentivize deep analysis and thoughtful writing

- There is a canonical link for every piece of information, project, etc

- Discussions only need to happen once. Whenever somebody starts discussing a matter we analysed 3 years ago, somebody drops a link on slack to provide context.

To be fair, we are a company of 2000+ and every time we grow, we are actively discussing ways to evolve how we use P2s.

Keeping a writing culture requires habits as well. We specifically hire for good writting communication skills.

P2 is way more like Hacker News than it is like wiki. The threaded/nested comment system is a huge part of how we use P2s to communicate, jam on ideas, and frankly - also provide critical feedback.

Just like on HN, one comment deep in the thread can be way more valuable than the original post. (I work at Automattic)

4 years ago I bought Dacia Duster - it is a Renault-made car on the chassis of Nissan Quashqai. It costs $10k new, straight from the dealer. Mine costed 13k because I added powered mirrors, electric windows, A/C, and aluminum rims.

When I travelled to Mexico, I've seen it very popular there under Renault brand.

The car feels cheap, cramped, and has no discernible acceleration :D. It also gets the job done, is dirt cheap to repair, and has so much clearance you can build a whole lean startup under the floor.

Since HN is the way I get information, it is hard for me to pitch anything novel since whenever I come with content that I want to share, I search and somebody already submitted it :/. It is a new years resolution of mine do post more of the "other" stuff

I (author) have a kid, a dog, an apartment and a summer house I inherited. I definitely speak from experience here and am not specifically against anything in particular, except rushing into decisions.

I don't agree with your conclusion that this is something you have to fight. We can do exactly what they did before the spread of montheism - live in the world where it is perfectly normal to have multiple points of view or even value frameworks. Rome thrived in that setting.

The App form factor is better suited to the user mental model of something they use daily. It has both higher stickiness AND it slots with their expectations. I made a mental shortcut of bundling these 2 together.
