I think it's wrong to speak of a hacker ethic in such strict terms. I would not say somebody is instantly not a hacker if he holds the believe that it is alright to make a project openly available and sell a corporate version with specific features for example. Where to cross the line is up to each person, the extreme example being rms, who even refuses to use a computer where the BIOS isn't free (which many hackers would say is exorbitant).

Also there are quite many companies and business models around free software / open source software.

I am also astonished by that number, but circumcision certainly seems to be an important way of fighting HIV.

- Mac OS shows storage space the right way, because it shows capacity in KB/GB (which is base 10 by definition)

- Windows OS shows storage space the wrong way, because while using base 2, it still claims to show you space in KB,GB (but actually it's GiB)

To what is generally better: Well for the common user GB might make more sense, since every storage device is marketed with GB in mind.

I think if this page demonstrates one thing, then how bad his music is, when i am correct in presuming it's his music that can be heard throughout the game.

Not being a BSD guy myself, but being a fan of minimalistic linux systems, being a fan of keeping dependencies low, of not necessarily throwing out software that has done it's job for 10+ years to just get the newest gadget in, i actually think he's right with many things he says.

As i switched to a minimalistic tiling window manager, i more and more saw the value in them.

I have by default 9 virtual desktops, use different ones for different tasks.

Instead of minimizing/maximizing windows i just switch virtual desktops. It perfectly suits my work flow.

In my opinion: 2 monitors instead of one and quick shortcut switching through virtual desktops, developing some routine in using them, definitely boosts ones productivity.

But have to admit that i also didn't quite see value in them while using full Desktop Environment.

Regarding the question of Microsoft not implementing the feature in Windows:

Since the typical Windows User is a heavily mouse dependent one, i think they can do without it.

Hint: Change the title from "Ubuntu workplaces" to just "workplaces" or "Desktop workplaces". I don't see how this is Ubuntu specific

1) Underrepresentation does not equal racism

Exactly. Often many women in my classes were very good at maths/science, yet only very few went on to really study something like maths/science or something strongly business-related.

Does anyone here also feel like an outsider because you - no matter how other people love it - just won't get used to touch (or for some reason you don't want to) ?

I wouldn't mind my current notebook [1] having a touch display (additionally), but i still wouldn't use it that often i guess (and i wouldn't pay extra for it).

I really have to try the Keyboard of the Surface though, but knowing me - very picky about keyboards - i don't think i could work with it.
