Yes I understand what an idiom is jfc. OpenAI was never the enterprise focused company to start and besides they can walk and chew gum. There’s another idiom for you.

This take is imo very contrarian. Is Anthropic really popping champagne? They kind of look like the bad guys in this entire saga. If not the bad guys the enemy of fun and open source builders.

Isnt the math of buying Nvidia stock with what you pay for all the hardware and then just paying $20 a month for codex with the annual returns better?

Old man yells at cloud, then creates a labyrinth of mirrors for the images of the clouds to reflect back on each other.

Its because it's false and misleading. What is "more", the wealthy are paying more in terms of dollar amounts. We have very high marginal tax rates in America, and we have very rich people paying a lot of taxes.

In percentage terms the middle class is overtaxed the most of course. But percentage terms are an extremely misleading way to look at this.

Being middle class I'm more angry that the bottom 50% on net pay no income taxes and I'm a net payer into their lifestyle.

Paying taxes absolutely increases CO2 consumption because you are enabling the US military to conduct wasteful operations around the world.

We should pay less taxes because the government is extremely wasteful and polluting overall.

Yet obviously, some people find it useful. Who are you to tell people how to live their lives?

Maybe you should stop flying on airplanes for the rest of your life?

The author wrote a book about how AI is all fake and its a bubble so consider the source. I don't think you could get further from the truth right now. Basically the analysis here is 1/10 level.

It's a question of whether or not you believe freedom of speech is worth the risk somebody somewhere will say something you don't like. At one point people seemed to believe this worth the risk and freedom of speech was good. Now, little by little people are attacking this. Choose safety over freedom and you will be giving your freedom to someone you have no control over, but now they have the freedom to control you.

Yeah uptown got hit really hard. Maybe the other commenters don't live in uptown but I do and the crime issues are pretty wild since the riots. My neighbor was carjacked at gunpoint by a group of teenagers in our parking lot. You have to be very aware of your surroundings now. I'd say about half of the businesses have closed permanently around me.

The Walgreens on 27th and Hennepin gets robbed at least once a month. One time they just shot up drive through windows and the employees left while they robbed the place. Luckily the glass is bulletproof on them. The cops don't seem to really respond things.

One of the weirdest things was this summer where they were doing construction on 28th and Hennepin and there was a cop posted up there during the day. I asked him why and he said "because the construction workers were being assaulted and their tools were being stolen". And this is in a nice area right by Lake of the Isles.

Deny it if you want, it's just like a political mess now because the DA will no longer bring a lot of prosecutions to trial it seems like.

It worked out during the Great Depression because all of our rival powers were completely destroyed by WWII. We won't be so lucky this time. China is poised to overtake the US as the top superpower if our economy collapses. In a couple decades, this might not be the case, as they will be facing severe demographic problems.

Pretty much, yep

Well isn't the issue here that The Fed enables the reckless behavior of congress by sterilizing the deficits?

Yes the root cause is the politicians spending tons of money to get re-elected and running up deficits but they shouldn't be able to get away with it and keep kicking the can down the road.

To your last point - of course it's obvious that interest rates are suppressed and if they were allowed to rise it would cause a depression. But if they were not there would be less mal-investment and the zombie companies propped up by debt would soon collapse. It's not that this wouldn't cause pain in the short term but that you can't just eliminate reality and it's going to happen sooner or later. The longer you delay the worse the ultimate recession might be.

Thanks, that's interesting to note. The main thing people seem to talk about is the 52 billion for semiconductors which is the "CHIPS" act. Just wondering about the other 200 billion. It looked like $29 billion went to the NSF?

Proof of stake is not secure, there is no way to recover from a 51% attack. Proof of work and proof of space are much better.

Personally I would put half in foreign stocks (like EFA etf) and half in gold. The dollar is dropping against foreign currencies and they are all dropping against gold. Every central bank is printing money like there is no tomorrow: with good reason we are in the midst of a deflationary shock.

But couple the money printing with record low interest rates (and negative interest rates), this creates a special situation where gold (and other hard currency like bitcoin) outperforms. With a negative real rate on bonds, you will lose inflation adjusted purchasing power in bonds even if you come out positive. There are not a lot of great options right now.

Oh this very nice, thanks for the heads up on this!

He made the same mistake on the "Pomp" podcast the other day too. He was saying we send 50k to every person in the USA for the stimulus.

Well, no. 2 trillion divided by by 327 million is $6,116 dollars. So yeah maybe we should divide the 2 trillion up between the people but he got a decimal point wrong.

Personally it seems more effective to send most of the money to hospitals and medical organizations because people wouldn't necessarily be able to use stimulus money for anything now anyway.

Seems like it makes sense to prop up businesses since you can't build a business overnight and most people would not be able to start one easily.

I like some of his arguments but basically give them any real thought and this guy is just trying to get attention by saying shocking things.
