Can’t people get their own insurance or ACA in the US?
Surprise medical bills can hit anyone regardless of their financial situation
Whatever happens to you, professionals will take of you and you won't have to worry whether your family will go bankrupt because you stumbled as a kid or not. Because the society as a whole has build a net that will catch you when things like this happen.
Why?
Who builds the net?
Imagine what we could all do with the extra time and money we get from automated checkouts?
And you would trade that so the store can have people standing around waiting for you to decide to pay for groceries?
A century after Germany's monarchy was abolished, some of its blue-blooded descendants are riding back into battle to reclaim what they see as their royal birthright.
How come everybody want to keep it like the kaiser?
(sorry)
What’s missing here and other land claims around the world is that the Kaiser didn’t sue anyone or plead in international court for the right to have those properties.
The monarchs kept those lands through the strength of their armies, and I don’t think that world of might can just transition over to the new world of law
Wait, I just read in this thread that not having financial aid when going to college was financial suicide
I worked at a company that introduced recycling program and we had three bins: trash, recyclables and food
We were all trying to abide by the program and go “green”.
One day we stuck around late and noticed the cleaning guy come in take the three bins and empty the onto the same trash container
We asked him and he said they only had one type of trash containers we downstairs so everything went into the same one
Some homeless need homes, others need medical care, drug rehab, jobs or education
Some just need a second chance and a hand to be able to climb out of the hole they’re in
Others won’t be able to ever help themselves
Saying they “need homes” because they’re “home less” sounds so naive
Edit:
Everyone needs shelter and I hope a comprehensive solution could be implemented where anyone in need could find the type of shelter that is most helpful
Immigration shouldn’t be about helping, but about letting people help themselves by being productive members of their new society
Certain sectors of the economy are experiencing shortages - of course that just means people are not willing to pay the price that citizens charge: https://www.sfgate.com/business/article/A-catastrophic-trend...
Wonder how many nativists will end up cared for by immigrant caregivers
Do you have to be wealthy to not need public assistance?
The only people who could conceivably benefit from immigrant labor would be industries with huge huge numbers of minimum or close to minimum-wage employees- Home Depot, Chipotle, Subway etc. I guess Amazon.
It’s the farms
Just look at the latest big raid: chicken farms
In California César Chavez was against illegal immigration because the farms would use immigrants to break the unions
Don’t know exactly what Soros and the Kochs do, I’m guessing they don’t exactly employ people but own companies that sell things to people
Went last week, very disappointed by the new Star Wars attraction, essentially a glorified video game - I’ll be skipping Star Wars land next time
You can do Disneyland in a day if it’s not too crowded
Universal Studios’ AP is a lot cheaper but the park needs to add a lot more rides to match Disneyland
then the headline would read: “Apple finally adds web option for AppleCard”
Didn’t Freakonomics tackle this subject and concluded that school doesn’t make that much of a difference in results and it was more about each persons makeup?
What about the armed forces ?
Is there absolute poverty in the US ?
Why?
Video and audio editing are a small part of being a YouTuber
Creating content for millions of viewers, having the pulse of what a large audience wants, the right personality, etc go much farther
And I think those skills can translate over to our connected world
Do you have any sources for this purge of US intelectuals?
What is cmail19.com ?
Why is the line cook accepting it?
Lobbying for companies to leave the Bay Area?
Why not stop working for them and work somewhere else where you can live comfortably?
shooting the messenger
Unions & guilds also serve to keep other workers out
There are laws that work has to be assigned to union shops, etc
Aren’t your first two paragraphs a contradiction ? if housing prices don’t rise above inflation how do middle and lower class households build wealth?
Historically, per Schiller, housing has tracked inflation in the US
We have one tech sector that is run (disproportionately) for the sake of white people and embodies white values.
What do you mean by “white values”?
If half the country has no upward mobility and an impoverished quality of life that takes everything they got just to survive, then wealth is an inherited trait just like cultural identity.
I question whether half the country has no upward mobility and an impoverished way of life.
Furthermore wealth is inherited, and we have an inheritance tax for it.
Still don’t get how UBI creates wealth
I guess, but don’t you lose the safety net too?
I don’t get what UBI solves vs the existing social safety net programs
James Felton Keith, tells The Sociable that a Universal Basic Income is the best way to distribute an equity stake in productivity — thus creating an “asset holder class.”
US already provides a tremendous amount of value to its residents vs the rest of the world - doesn’t that count as a stake in productivity ?
