First, it assumes crypto is "stuck in time" and not evolving. Proof-of-Stake + Layer 2s are orders of magnitude more efficient. Like any new tech, it gets more efficient over time.

Second, there's a distinction between energy usage and carbon emissions. Energy usage with zero carbon emissions is not bad for the environment. Bitcoin mining is perfect for carbon neutral energy sources because it can be mined anywhere, which is why Bitcoin mining energy sources are between 39% and 73% carbon neutral and growing [1].

Third, I think there is real value in a widely-used currency that is not centrally controlled. There is some cost to do this, manifest in the form of energy consumption. The fiat banking system also consumes substantial energy, and I would be curious to see a complete comparison.

In general, I get a sentiment of "it's ridiculous all these people got rich" followed by "there's a reason to justify my outrage" and, without further research, calls to ban an entire technology.

We are iteratively building the next generation of consumer products. Highrise is an early stage company, but it already has over 100,000 users engaging with the platform every day.

We are a bootstrapped startup with significant traction looking to hire an Android engineer to help build our unique cross-platform tech stack (C++, Cocos2dx, Obj-C/Swif, Kotlin/Java).

Highrise - Durham, North Carolina | Lead Backend Developer (Scala) | ONSITE | Full-time | Relocation to Durham | https://highrise-inc.workable.com/jobs/513323 | Highrise connects the world through games

Highrise (http://appstore.com/highriseyouravatarcommunity) is the leading avatar-based social network on iOS. Every day, over 100,000 people use our application to make friends, keep in touch, decorate avatars and rooms, and chat. We are committed to providing a warm and comforting environment for people from all walks of life in Highrise.

As Lead Backend Developer, you'll be the first non-founder engineer on the backend team. The role is highly independent and will be working closely with our cofounders on all things backend. We have a strong engineering culture with an extremely capable and experienced team. The entire Highrise mobile app was built single handedly by our CTO, with the entire server backend written by our VP Eng. We are looking for an engineer and developer of the same caliber to join our team to take Highrise to the next level.

The role is fast-paced and independent, with a focus on results rather than on direct oversight or management. The role will require learning new tools, languages, algorithms, techniques and much more. Our backend is modern and highly performant. The stack uses Kubernetes, JRuby, Scala, Akka, and MongoDB, so experience with any of these technologies is a plus. To support the next round of growth we plan to migrate the JRuby codebase to Scala, and you will be the lead architect of this new Scala backend. In short, this is the perfect role for a self-starting engineer who loves to solve challenging problems in a fast-paced environment.

I run an online community. Building a safe space is extremely difficult and full of grey area, online or offline.

There's a fine line between the freedom to express yourself and offending someone else. As a community moderator, choosing what is and isn't offensive is by definition subjective. It's an impossible task for a global, multi-cultural community. You end up with a vanilla message board where most interesting thought/debate is stifled. Reminds me of the campus "safe space" debate.

As the Anton of Ariel and Anton in this post, the logic behind returning the shares is based on the fact that the business should really have been restarted with a fresh cap table rather than keeping the old cap table in tact. The old cap table was maintained for reasons of convenience, and given that the company has a completely different product, focus, code-base, team, etc etc, I only have shares in this company on the basis of the poor decision to not launch a new company.

Also - Paul and Tal are awesome guys who have been hard at work for 4 years without any input from me. I think Ecquire will be a great success, and the divestment of my shares has nothing to do with my perception of the company's potential.
