Love this. I tried my hand at reverse engineering some of these components on linear and similar websites but did not get good results. I love the fact these are configurable and free. Something I definitely would have paid for.

The rise of bento box designs [at least for now] is very visually appealing. Glad to be moving away from illustrations. Some of the designs animated with Rive are mind blowing: https://x.com/alex_barashkov/status/1790748157141213237

Not everyones a developer. M1 vs M3 performance boost for video editing seems like a decent upgrade. I'm still on M1 and I spent £4k+ on specced up MBP 14 inch. Its not struggling but it doesn't perform well when editing 4k with one layer of effects in DaVinci.

Can you detail your full specs of your current machine? you should be able to handle those tasks. Do you have a dedicated graphics card? SSD?

Have you checked activity monitor to see what the biggest culprit is?

[I now have M1 max, 64gb 14 inch - and don't have any issues. But previously I had Intel i7 mac, 13inch, 16gb ram - no dedicated graphics card and I never had issues with development, i upgraded for video editing]

Agree with this, it's mostly talking about numbers and the success instead of the product itself [which you'd expect to be the forefront of all their posts as its the main reason they are tweeting?]

I have a BSc and an MSc and I don't ever want to work for FAANG. I work as a contractor and work only few months a year if it allows it. Rest of the time I work on my own side projects - the dream for me is for them to get successful. UK based but relocated to Asia. FAANG might seem like the successful endpoint but theres many exciting companies/startups out there that might make you feel more accomplished than working in a massive ORG.

'IF' - easy to criticise. Let's see how much time you invest into marketing vs the product itself. A lot of developers [solo at least] fall into the latter category. Been there many a time so I can empathise.

Not a traditional blog, but i was looking at a service for my photography. I eventually almost went with squarespace. But felt pricing was too high if you wanted to add your own custom CSS etc. Also felt bit bloat and I wasn't happy with the templates.

In the end I just made my own from scratch and just use S3 for hosting [manual uploads, as i don't update it often]

simple HTML responsive grid, using tailwind CDN. No build steps.

PWAs in App Stores 3 years ago

yes, i'm aware - but this wont work in webview. You need to have the app installed on your home screen

PWAs in App Stores 3 years ago

disclaimer 'iOS does not support PWAs natively and packaging PWAs for iOS is Experimental. We can not guarantee that your app will be accepted into Apple’s App Store.' - i also doubt the PWA push notifications on iOS would work on a webview.

otherwise, very cool however the app store market monopoly is a joke. So are most of the user ratings on such stores. The beauty of PWA's is that there is no appstore or an over looking body - the internet is free!

these are just extravagant examples. Optimistic UI updates work best. I don't click links that open/load a fresh new page unless absolutely necessary as theres cognitive resistance stopping me from doing it.

I was like this once, i didn't go on antidepressants but i thought my world was over. Let me just tell you that this a small blip and you will learn to live with it. The intensity at which you hear it now will dampen by ten folds as time goes on. In some people it can also randomly disappear

What helped me -Sleeping with a fan / aircon / noise machine -Listening to music / coffee shop bg sounds during work -Not having many silent moments at home, having music on etc to distract myself

I always wear ear plugs at loud events like gigs etc, something I always should have done. You need to stop listening to it, to see if its gone or how high it is. Eventually your brain will zone it out.

also this is a crazy suggestion but moving to Asia also helps, there is always traffic, fans, aircons and beach sounds

The issue with real life is 'approach anxiety' and now that online dating has been out for a while - people are not as open to cold approaching as they used to be. The default has shifted. Further more, it's hard to tell if someone is single, or even open to dating - this leads to many more rejections.

The only good thing about online dating apps is the anonymous liking feature, you get match when you mutually like each other - so on paper there is less rejection. However as this thread states - it has other downfalls.

This issue really got to me few years ago and I set out to build an app that would allow you to have this anonymously liking but at events, bars etc So it's hyper localised, you check-in to an event/bar and you see other singles that are there. If you match, you can then 'warm' approach them.

I always just saw this app as an ice breaker app - it was received well by my peers. Unfortunately due to flaky business partners and covid, i'm only now at a point where i'm ready to release. Pending Apple app store approval which has been an absolute pain.

It will be a slow roll out, initially in Bali, Indonesia. Pending response and funding.

if anyone is interested, its called SeeMe http://www.seemeapp.net/

Why would I want physical media? I listen to music on the go, at the gym, working, traveling and with friends.

Do you have any favourite artists? what do you do when they have a new release? surely Spotify monthly sub out weighs the cost of buying new albums. I love the discover feature, I love being able to search for any artist, at any time - my taste changes with my mood.

Not sure how YouTube even compares, especially with adverts, their monthly sub is costs more than spotify.

BTW i'm an 80s kid and used to collect a lot of vinyl. I love physical media but it doesn't compare to what Spotify is offering, especially for 10.99 EUR/month
