Thank you! This entire thread is full of anecdotes about how 'well' everyone thinks they sleep when they travel. Unless they're doing a brain scan at the same time, these anecdotes are useless.

Additionally, all the stories about camping and hotel stay are situations in which other factors would influence sleep - strenuous hiking, sleep schedule mucked about by jet lag, etc.

For some reason it delights me that Stephen Fry has read William Gibson.

There are many questions I would like to see asked of Caleb, the subject of much of the article.

For starters, I would like to know about his sense of humor, and about his taste in music and art, and how he would describe his preferences.

You're able to disable Flash on Android by default and only load it on a site when you approve it. It doesn't 'ruin' anything at all, because you'll never be using it unless there's Flash content you want to view.

Having content on the web that's unviewable to a device does more to ruin the experience than a performance hit while doing something CPU-intensive.

Also, from what I've read, this beta of Flash doesn't make use of any hardware acceleration, while the final release will.

I can summarize The Silmarillion far more efficiently:

It is a collection of stories that share a fictional world and span thousands of years. It's not a novel so much as an anthology.

Hence the many characters, no long story arcs, etc. Break it down into short stories and it's much easier to tackle. You don't have to remember every single character's name, because you likely won't see it again after a certain point.

If the writer of this blog post got his way and stirred the masses to complain over not getting the new 'customer deals', then the service providers would simply take away the new customer deals. That'd be 'fair', right?

He was a new customer once. He got one of those deals himself. Now he's pissed that someone, somewhere else in the world is paying less than him for cable.

The only other outcome would be contracts - like with cell phone providers, you'd sign a 3-year contract or somesuch for cable, and they'd offer you another 'new customer promotion' if you resign a new contract when your existing one is up.

Attempting to make things 'fair' just makes things worse for everyone.
