I once read a similar article about a guy who visited his parents once a year. He then calculated he realistically has 10 more visits with them based on their age and decided to visit more often. That hit home for me, and I've made an effort to visit more and be more patient. These articles can be a gentle prompt. The last line of this particular article made an impact too.

Democracy needs a free press, and not just free but one that is motivated by high quality fact based news. The high quality part is subjective but maybe achievable via a peer review group like a Journalist Guild type awards system. Publications would be required to need to maintain a certain standard of conduct to access the funds awarded by guild. Free of advertising to avoid click bait "news".

Perhaps such a model could co-exist with a commercial element. Access to premium services, to keep my proposal vague and aspirational.

The potential here is amazing. It's very early days, but this is the first Robot I've seen that makes me think home assistant robotics is technically and financially feasible. It does not need to be consumer priced from day one as there are many high value scenarios that could benefit from this robot. For example, home care in Europe costs governments millions every year. Even remotely controlled by a carer would be an application for today.

I was in same boat. Looking for easy vector animation tool without subscription. https://www.svgator.com/ was closest I found in terms of ease of use but is subscription based. Open Toons supports what I need but is too complex. Ended up using Google Web Designer and recording HTML playback to video. Still not what I wanted but best I could come up with. Blender is probably the best option now I reckon.

Is there any trend or metric we can monitor for sign of that? Like, average time required in ICU shortening, which may mean virus is weakening?

I go through phases of investing time in Blender & creating 3D renders. Plan is to create a CG 3 panel type comic. I've always wanted to do this and even though working from home, there's more time in day due to no commute. Love all the changes in 2.8 and enjoy learning the tool as much as I do creating with it.

This is part of the brand building. Ryanair want you to associate their name with cheap and those headlines are deliberately encouraged by their CEO who will use every trick in the book if he gets PR out of it. On a side note, I don't think Ryanair are terrible. They're punctual and have seats that cannot recline, which to me is a positive flight experience.

I subscribe for the very same reason. I only listen to the recordings of the founders voice. The rest, especially the American (sorry) accent I find less soothing.

This was the main reason I left Linux. It had everything I needed, Blender for 3D, GIMP for photo editing, Krita for painting and Gravit Designer for Vector illustrations (not open source). But I just could not use OpenShot, KDENlive and others. The UX killed my time. I had to look up documentation to do some very basic tasks (smooth cross fade, Pan and Zoom etc). I think there's great potential in a "Windows Movie Maker" type video editor and OpenShot could come close with some UI tweaks.

Exactly. The article went off point very quickly, in my humble opinion.

It's hard to understand. On paper, it has all the ingredients. Highly educated rich market. The EU created a 500 million common market which should allow European companies to scale. SAP, Spotify, Philips, ASOS, Skyscanner and even Nokia/Skype before take overs were/are tech success stories. But looking at the largest companies by revenue in Europe you see they are dominated by 20th century largely traditional industries (oil, engineering, food). I use GIMP regularly, and always impressed at the quality of the tool and the amount of features it has. Looking forward to the v2.10 release. Anyone know where I can download a Windows build of the release candidate? Can't seem to find a link on the website.
