Yes kind of. You have to differentiate between all the different kinds of data. A lot of data was already included in the client files, but for the rest you had to sniff packages, analyse combat logs, watch 360p videos of boss fights and try to figure out exactly how mechanics are working. It got very ugly after a new expansion has been released, because it was not possible anymore to sniff for the older expansion.

It was always a “best effort”, but also very rewarding if you got a specific fight “somewhat” close how it was on the official servers.

When I moved over to Linux (2018ish) video and photo editing was still the thing, where I was still moving back to Windows or macOS But apparently I should really take another look at Kdenlive, looks like a lot of things have improved heavily, that it could hit the sweet spot between my love hate relationship with Resolve and the ease of use of Sony Vegas back in the day. I’ve tried multiple different tools, but none really felt right - probably because I was using i3 on my desktop. And then I found aerospace, which is inspired by i3 and uses a lot of clever tricks to achieve this

But one thing: If you record demos please try to setup your mic correctly. In the demo you've shared the audio is pretty often clipping (which does not really sound great/ sounds unprofessional)

There are a few (unofficial) moddable games if you look into the homebrew scene. But for this you need to have a Switch that is capable of running unofficial code (either old Switch with a softmod or a Switch with a hardmod)

If you have such a Switch you can use a tool that overwrites/unions the content of the game cartridge with content of a folder on your SD card. That means you could add some files (e.G. maps) into the game.

From the top of my head you can definitely mod the Skyrim Switch version as well as the Star Wars Jedi Knight Games (at least these were the two games which I've played around it). But I am pretty sure that there are Mods for the mario games.

I really love the current days of OSS, because they enable such software that may fit into the needs for a smaller usergroup. Great job! :)

From my point of view it was really a game changer. The first time debugging and understanding web-applications became accessible. Probably all browser dev tools were inspired by this tool

7 years seem to be a long time, but for something that operates on such a low level it isn't. Rust also exists for 12 years now, but got the most traction in the last 2-3 years. From my point of view wasm is currently in a state where a lot of companies and people are learning. Most of the toolchains had to mature before the broader mass of developers (who have an interest in this technology) took a look into it.

Yeah, you are right, it is lesser used than e.g JavaScript, but tbh it also has a different target audience. You probably can build UI by using wasm. But why don't use JavaScript, which is way more comfortable and has a bigger community around it? (Unless you have some specific needs) As a web developer you don't need wasm right now. If you are doing some lower level work (like trying to run AI models/training) and you really need the performance, then wasm gets pretty interesting.

Most of the cool wasm projects I've seen in the past few months/ years were open source ports of games or emulators compiled to wasm (like Doom 3 ), which really ran very great. And my guess is that the broader development community is currently doing exactly this: they are playing around with wasm to learn for what use cases wasm could be a great fit.

(more known Wasm users are for example Figma or Google Earth. Iirc I've read that BBC is currently exploring if they can use wasm for their media players)

Maybe not the greatest story but definitely one of the loveliest games I've played was A Short Hike.

It is a kinda short (~5-6h) feel good game in which you more or less just have to explore a holiday island and meet different other Animals

Just a side note: Iirc Spotify does not use Electron - it uses the Chromium embedded Framework. It is kinda the same as electron (it gives you an Browser) but instead of JavaScript you have to use C++ (or a wrapper around the library in you favourite language) to implement the Backend side of the app

I completely agree with you, but I a small thought about public key authentication.

Today more and more people without a background in IT which got in the "Web3"/Crypto ecosystem get in touch with public key authentication mostly used with wallets like Metamask. It get's understandable and usable for the average user.

This is really interesting for small scale projects.

If you are a solo Dev and really want/ need data streams than you can only chose between Kafka and Redis Streams at the moment. While there are a lot of client libraries for Kafka for nearly every programming language, you really don't wanna manage your own Kafka instance and, to be fair, it really feels like overkill.

So RabbitMQ seems to fit into the same spot as the Redis Streams do: Easy manageable and usable streams, even for smaller projects. Really hope that this will be usable in many different client libraries soon.

One of the most innovative guitarrists of the current era is (for me at least) Tim Henson of Polyphia. Modern, innovative guitar playing has changed a lot in the last few decades. You probably won't find the most innovative players in classic Hard Rock or Metal Bands. You can find them instead in different sub-genres which have a deep focus on the "newer" style of playing.

As a guy in the mid twenties League of Legend was a big part of my teenage years. My friends and I played a lot and even watched some matches live. A few classmates were pretty good in the game (around Top 1000ish on the european ladder), but no one of them really tried to play it in a team on a more competetive level. Back then we had a lot of fun playing smaller Fun-Tournaments in which we participated together with hundreds of other teams, much of them way better then we were at the point.. but we had a lot of fun and we have some great memories.

Now one of my mates switched from LoL to CS:GO and plays on a semi-professional level (national league). We try to watch every game via Twitch.tv together while talking via Teamspeak. We are not playing that much anymore, but because we grew up with these games and still know the rules watching E-Sports feels natural and we are more connected to it than to regular sport.

Another cool fact is that we all know the game and sometimes come together to play one or two rounds of League of Legends together. It is the game everyone at my age played.

It already became a thing. At least in Germany there are a couple bigger Twitch streamers, which hired the persons who already made good, unofficial montages or "Best-Of" videos about them. If I am correct they get a share of the YouTube revenue.

In my opinion this is a great deal for both. The streamer can broaden his audience by having an official stream highlight YouTube channel, the fans have more content and won't miss anything and the amateur video editors are getting a chance to do their passion more professionally (well, most of them had already good, YouTube focused editing skills)

It differs from person to person I guess. For me it is more about learning and understanding stuff. It motivates me more than doing my day to day job, because I encounter completely different domains and problems :)

I have the same problem at the moment.... I want to update my Windows 10 (from 1803 to 1903), but it is simply not possible. Everytime I want to update I get an error (0xc190012e)... I uninstalled VeraCrypt and decrypted all of my drives (Took quite a long time..), but no success.

Probably this does not even has to do with VeraCrypt: After a bit of research I found some posts. It seems like this error is caused by my SSD... I guess I have to reinstall my Windows.

From my PoV blockchain can be the solution for a lot of things, but is not suited for most of these problems. It is "just" a technology like any other, but with a focus on trust in decentralized systems. If you need this then blockchain could be a good solution, but this does not mean that it fit your needs in transaction speed etc.

Guess I will take a look at this, cause this sounds interesting as a casual game jam participant myself

According to the spiral plan the chapters get written and re-written in the order 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. You think you know how to write Chapter 1, but after you’ve done it and gone on to Chapter 2, you’ll realize that you could have done a better job on Chapter 2 if you had done Chapter 1 differently

I guess this is one of the best tips in terms of general structured writing.
