I wonder if it would be possible to crowdsource the training of new tasks with a standard training tech protocol? That way you bid on the task you want and someone who solves it gets a bounty and everyone benefits? The point is there’s a long tail of tasks and a centralized lab probably can’t do them all.

I am not familiar with the space, but is moving boxes from A to B even a real pain point for many businesses such that they’d get an ROI by buying something like this just for that sole purpose? I am curious, if they indeed used first principle thinking in order to design a robot that has to be able to replace human labor / jobs, why the robot needs to have 28 actuators and look and function exactly like a humanoid? It seems like copying exact human form, mobility, and movement would almost be arbitrary, and not really necessary. Anyone else have an informed idea as to why that wanted to so precisely copy the human form and movement?

Most robotics as far as I understand are designed to be specific to a set of tasks, and the design is optimized around that, thus no other industrial robots look exactly like humans, as far as I am aware. Are they being too ambitious, and romantic, in trying to design a robot that does too much while looking like a human?

Kind of a tangent, but for any German speakers (or someone learning German), there is a fun series about kids on a Mars Colony from Andreas Eschbach called Das Marsprojekt, it has 6 books in the series. It was really fun to read, and if you’re intermediate a good way to learn.

I sympathize with your situation, and can relate to some of the things you described over the last couple years due to a high stress work environment. One thing I realized was that a majority of the population are magnesium deficient and this can have a dramatic effect on some people. Initially I tried taking the RDA amount as a supplement and it did nothing. Eventually I said screw it and tried a much larger dose, 1 gram per day of magnesium chelate lysinate glycinate. I felt like a different person within 48 hours. Interestingly I found this pubmed article shortly therafter which described exactly my experience:

Other than that exercise makes a huge difference for me. I try to do the stair climber for 5 mins each morning and get my heart rate up, and then just walk outside or on the treadmill for 30 to 60 mins right after. If I go more than 2 days without doing that I generally start to feel like crap again. That has made a big difference.
