Great timing. The angular based project I've been working on for the past 6 months just had a soft launch the other day. Being able to tell the powers that be that we are no longer on the unstable branch will ease a few minds.

Exactly. "Tell me about your last project" can easily turn into a 2 hour conversation with any developer who has built anything of substance. It will tell you everything you need to know about them.

I don't know how Apple has the 'integrated experience' advantage. When I buy mp3's on Amazon I can download them to my PC, leave them in the cloud and stream them over the web, or download/stream them to any iOS or Android device using their cloud app. Apple gives me similar features, but only if I stay in the iOS/OSX ecosystem.

Last year, amazon put the mp3's for around 70% of the cd's I bought from them over the past 15 years into their cloud for free. When apple removed DRM from the iTunes store, they wanted me to pay over $300 to unlock my collection.

Amazon also lets me upload my own collection into their cloud and gives me the same streaming and download capacity across any device just as if I had bought the songs from them.

I don't see how Apple wins on price, features, or experience.

The mistake here is thinking that google's 'free' services are free. I am letting you spy on me (gather metrics on what I read, what I've marked as important, what I've shared with others) in exchange for the use of your product.

That type of data should be worth 10x more to an advertising company than the 5 or 10 dollars a month than I would pay for each service.

This is a fairly old teaching method. I remember doing it over 30 years ago when I was 6 years old at Montessori. We used a wooden board and pegs though.

Picture a writer. You've seen him countless times in tv shows and movies. Brow furrowed, pencil gripped tight between teeth, hunched over a typewritter, tearing pages out and throwing them into an overflowing waste basket, staring at the ceiling praying for inspiration.

Picture a developer. Brow furrowed, hunched over a keyboard, the room is dark but he glows from the light of the monitor, a pile of empty mountain dew cans littering his waste basket, slamming his fist on the desk in frustation.

Creativity is noticing the absence of something and knowing how to bring from the void into reality. You sketch it. You poke it and prod it. You shape it until it is just so. You love it until you hate it enough to call it done.

Sounds a lot like coding, at least if you are doing it right.

Please, learn how to code. Learn how to draw. Learn how to think. Learn how to write. Learn how to solve problems. Learn how to do everything until something sticks. Not until you find something that you 'love', but until you find something that you just can't not do. And when you grow tired of it, do something else.

Software development has to be one of the only professions where we expect all our tools to be free. And on the off chance we do pay for something, we better get lifetime, monthly updates for free as well.

Seriously, imagine if our clients had the same expectations of the software we wrote.
