And how about the indigenous Inca & Maya people, nobody wants to see their human sacrifice culture celebrated on Facebook (Mel Gibson exposed the ugly truth in Apocalypto)
And the Spanish Inquisition, Bluebeard, Ivan The Terrible, Robespierre, Lenin, Beelzebub and Donald J. Trump?
there is not much math, don't let the academic papers razzle dazzle you, they make things look complicated to get their grants
in practice, as long as you've studied basic calculus and understand how to find a minimum of a function via derivative you're good, there is your "gradient descent" in a nutshell: https://www.mathsisfun.com/calculus/maxima-minima.html
everything else is plug-and-play from existing libraries
you can ask any "data scientist" or "ML engineer" what they do all day, it's a whole lot of copy paste, and tweaking the data and parameters through trial and error until it fits
If you want to understand how the brain works this is a good intro with some realistic neuronal network models ( spoiler: these have nothing to do with “artificial neural nets” as we know them) https://www.amazon.com/Brain-Computations-Edmund-T-Rolls/dp/...
That’s correct understanding as of 1943 when the “artificial neural network“ model your professor is teaching was developed.
There is a whole lot of new knowledge on how live neurons and networks of neurons work that had been collected in the last 75 years in the neuroscience domain but it’s mostly ignored by computer scientists.
I mean, most of Republicans on wikipedia are vilified as "far-right conspiracy theorists" and all shades of evil, with links to fake news as source of information (Washington Post for example)
one can argue, that if MSM spreads disinfo what can you expect from wikipedians, but the problem is their "power editors" and admins are a small clique with very particular political bias, it's just another echo chamber
not a fan of China government but in this case I tend to believe them, I've seen Wikipedia volunteers spread actual disinformation in a concerted effort especially on politically charged topics.
not encouraging delusions of mentally ill is not about “opposing their existence”, these people need help.
“Gender Dysphoria” is still considered a psychiatric disorder and (arguably) should be treated as such.
I think Chappelle’ jokes oppose the “celebration” of mental illness that somehow became the new normal recently, that one is not allowed to speak against.
thanks so much for writing this, unlike LSH there are very few articles on HNSW for some reason, while it's one of the most efficient (and relatively simple) nearest neighbors search methods out there. There is a precursor paper by HNSW author which explains the rationale and has interesting links to network science and neuroscience: https://arxiv.org/abs/1507.06529
I personally think both LSH and HNSW should be added to standard CS curriculum because of generality and so many immediate practical applications.
It feels like mass delusion, where otherwise rational, educated, smart people really believe in this woke nonsense in an almost religious manner and would attack you , even physically, if you're to speak against it.
I hate to bring up Godwin's law yet again but i think that's what some people felt in Germany when it was descending to Nazi madness with mobs marching outside.
