I think it's hard to argue with the idea that we should slow down and think more, and that AI is pushing us to do the opposite. But time is limited, it's very limited. And at least in a professional setting, to spend time on the correct things is key.

What AI allow us is to do those things we would not have been able to prioritize before. To "write" those extra tests, add that minor feature or to solve that decade old bug. Things that we would never been able to prioritize are we noe able to do. It's not perfect, it's sometimes sloppy, but at least its getting shit done. It does not matter if you solve 10% of your problem perfect if you never have time for the remaining 90.

I do miss the coding, _a lot_, but productivity is a drug and I will take it.

This happend to my kindle to! After keeping in in flight mode for years I put it online again in order to buy a few new books from the kindle store, poof suddenly my entire library of side loaded books was gone, with progress and everything. I could see random metadata files related to the books on the drive, be books was gone. Super annoying as many of the books I didn't have locally anymore and to loose the "archivement" of finished books sucks big time. I can see this may be implemented by amazon to counter piracy, but alot of these books was perfectly legal. So the result of this is that I will never put my kindle online again and just stop buying from the Kindle store.

Totally agree, it has been fun to follow, but I really don't hope that this stunt destroys for the awesome product Beeper Cloud is. As an European user I couldn't care less about blue and green bubbles, all of my communication goes through FB messenger or Snap, only exception is the occasional SMS from old relatives without other platforms.

Same issue for years, fist on a huawai p30 and now in the Samsung s21. Been so long now that I have accepted it as a feature.

I switched from Evernote to Joplin last year and are super happy. Syncing against an S3 bucket and everything works great, rarely any problems.

I have been using Beeper for 6 months or so now. In the start it had some bugs, but now they are more and more rare (I don't use iMessages).

Overall an amazing product, with what seems like a very active and product team behind which constants pushes out new updates. Highly recommended 10/10!

After dealing with booth Google and Apple for a couple of years I cannot express how much better the Apple experience with an actually human you can communicate with on the other end. To whomever thinking about starting a business relying on publishing through the Play Store, please think twice.

If anyone want a privacy focused all in one app I cannot recommend Beeper enough. I have been using it as my main app for SMS, messenger, WhatsApp and LinkedIn for half a year now and have only positiv experiences. Some bugs still, but amazing support and continuous fixes.

I built a TikTok clone only showing clips from old snowboard and ski movies from the early 2000s. Movies are imported using a CLI which reads VLC playlist containing bookmarks for each clip. I love my app and is using it every day as an alternative to other empty minded social media, but will probably never publish it or marked it due to copyrights.

If anyone has a use case which does not involve copyright infringement I would be happy to give away the code.

Second this! Went there sking some years back, one of the most remarkable and amazing places I have been. Resort of Gudauri offers amazing skiing, with the possible do some short hikes to do some world class offpist runs. Transitioned to other side of the country to Mestia, equal amazing skiing but even more amazing place.

I also found this a bit strange at first, but my guess without diving into the code is that since all searching is done on the client and not through an server side API, SQLite is probably the best way to achieve this performant across all devices and platforms.

Since this touches more regular note taking apps such as Evernote and OneNote I would like to give a shout out to Joplin. After using Evernote for 10 years or so I figured out that this would be the year I switched. First impression of Joplin is very good! Both desktop client and app seems fast, much much faster than Evernote. Setup of "self-hosting" against a S3 bucket was easy enough (had an issue with S3 URL needing region, something that was not mentioned in the docs).

It does not have all the fancy functions of Evernote (and rest of the apps mentioned in this thread), but for just keeping a collection of notes it seems to cover the basics I need (notebooks, good search, markdown support, easy synch across clients etc).

This happen, but with Apple you get to communicate with a real person. I take this over Googles bot replies, every, single, day.

Actually WTF, the Oracle always free seems ludacris. I have just moved a couple of my personal projects from DO to Fly because of their amazing free tire, but Oracle's is in a completely different dimention.

I am aware it exists, but I have kinda put it off as I often feel that forks fail to deliver better than the original (worth to mention as a worthy fork is UnNetHack!). Is BN any good? Worth playing if your not into the magic stuff?

I would also give Cataclysm DDA my warmest recommendations. Such a refreshing game after year's with nethack and DCSS. Finally a roguelike ditching the fantasy setting for an apocalyptic world. After ten years or so it's still in very active development and it's a pleasure to watch the github repo for what's new every week.

Some recommendations; play it as an open world game and not a roguelike, aka save cheat whenever you want to. It's a very time-consuming game, so loosing a character does not feel like a lessons learned like it does in nethack and dcss, because you basically loose hours spent on training your characters soft skills (reading books, practicing skills). To get the gist and get you through the first days please check out the YouTube channel of Vormithrax, he had some amazing tutorials. And if your stuck the official discord is filled with nice people willing to help out.

Last recommendation (bit controversial) is to check out the tileset undeadpeople. It has been removed by the creator due to him putting out some statements not accepted by the community, but you will find mirrors all over reddit, but the tileset is just one noch above the rest imho.

As a side note; I was lucky enough to visit the town from the article, Mestia, a couple of years ago while doing a ski-touring holiday in Georgia and it was a truly remarkable place. Traveling there took hours driving on steep mountain roads which was constantly blocked due to rock slides and snow. When we finally arrived one of the first ting we saw was a wolf walking the outskirt of the town, which the town had a quite clever solution to, packs of gigantic dogs roaming free around the town. The town itself is packed with Svaneti Towers, which is placed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. So if you get the chance, please visit Svaneti before tourism or/and cypto miners destroys is.

Is the Chinese state-sponsored cyber warfare any worse than what the US or Russia are doing? My impression is that cyber warfare is a part of what it to be an superpower, if your not doing it you are losing(__lots of citations needed__), and I have no reason not to belive that the US is not best in class when it comes to cyber warfare.
