I noticed airflow as the backing orchestration service. Was there any consideration for another orchestration tool? I know Airbnb has at least two internally, but also that airflow is the predominant one for the data org still.

I don’t consider the sleep and auto retry features that interesting, but definitely nice to have.

The advantages to me are the the ability to easily have long-lived “workflows” that are written in the language of your choice (5 SDKs the moment), remove the need for storing state in your application database (even remove the need for a database all together for some services), handle the rough edges around distributed concurrency, and provide out of the box visibility into workflow states.

It does seem like it would be overkill for simple use cases, but with the SaaS offering being so compelling IMHO, I think it can make sense to put smaller use cases there if there is a chance of more use cases in the future.

I think it’s fair to criticize his response but bringing up his sexual preference is a tired and bigoted complaint. His detractors seem to be more concerned about his sexuality than anyone else.

This comment makes you sound unhappy but I hope that is not the case. You have nothing but choices and opportunity. Ask yourself "What is enough?" and "When I have enough, what will do?". It's likely you're already there and can finance a life that makes you happy.

I suppose you can either change yourself or change your social circle. I've found big changes in myself are difficult without changing the external factors for some period of time. Otherwise, it's too easy to fall into old patterns of behavior.

Top 1% by wealth maybe. In my experience, those in the top 1% by income are not that far off from the rest of the top 10% or so. Life looks easier, but they're still paying a mortgage and require a job to survive. I'd even wager some are still living paycheck to paycheck sadly.

As someone who was vaccinated three times, obeyed quarantine and had a kid during the pandemic— I don’t think that stat is having the effect you intended.

Now addressing the logic in your response, are you suggesting we should have similar school shutdown measures for the flu every year? For a similar three year period influenza will kill 400-600 kids.

Are you saying that there were, ant the time of creation, easements to the tens of thousands of square plots of land across the western USA? If so, what happened to them?

If this vast area of land was laid out as a grid of land and there are millions of acres of public plots inaccessible, wouldn’t it follow that there is a similar issue with private plots?

I’m sure a lot of this has been solved overtime with easements for roads, but when it was originally laid out I’d think that the vast majority of plots were not legally accessible as you’d have to cross over someone else’s plot to get there.

I suppose it makes sense as to how we ended up here, but how was physically traveling to these plots of land originally handled?

With this system and the laws around trespassing, how could any of these parcels of land been legally accessed? They would have had to cross a number of plots to arrive on a plot designated to the property owners.

I think it's partially the tone of blame towards the use of "just". While I am interested in micro-optimizations, especially in how I communicate, I suspect most people don't. I don't begrudge anyone who uses "just" in speech though.

Another article / perspective on this would be written to help others understand why they or others use "just" in speech. This would help people interested in optimizing communication see the flaws in the use of the word, while aiding in understanding/empathy for this who are on the receiving end.

I'm torn on this article. To start I think this is good advice, but I'm not sure it is the __best__ advice to help the people it proclaims to help. I'm actually not sure it even targets the right side of the issue.

The article is likely good advice for those looking to improve the gentleness of their communication skills, but ultimately this will only be a small portion of the people that care enough to improve their communication skills and put these learnings into practice. This still leaves the majority of ones communication open to the use of this word out of ignorance to the issue.

Instead I'd like to encourage those who feel resentment or anger over the use of this word to recognize it for what it more likely is. A mistake on the part of the speaker. An artifact of speech they picked up along the way. Generally just ignorance, nothing personal.

I apply this advice myself in many areas of my life. You can't change everyone, but you can change yourself. So make yourself more resilient where you can.

I'm not exactly sure why I bothered to type all this up, other than I have a feeling there is another perspective here that will reach more people and help those struggling other than trying to correct the speech of the masses. Of course it's never quite that black and white, it's probably a little bit of both.

Damage from running, while not unusual, is not the default. Running does not wear out the knees long term.

Why should Portland risk damaging its environment to pipe water to San Diego? What about when Reno, Las Vegas, pheonix, Palm Springs, and tiajuana want more water? Should we pipe it to them too?

The solution is to use less water. That means moving agriculture or humans out of these listed areas.

Are you implying that not delaying the withdrawal would have resulted in the Taliban leaving the rest of the country alone and going about their business?

From what I understand about it, the treaty was falling apart from the very beginning due to the US Government conducting negotiations without involving the Afghan government [1].
