any new technology also introduces new bottlenecks, so i wonder if its a 2 steps forwards 1 step backwards (or vice versa) situation (e.g llm summarized my email conversation to be more clear but left out a key detail; now i have to rework my proposal and i lost 1 week of income etc)

1. its forced on me at $job; its just a tool so let me use it when i need it and stop making my work-life miserable with childish tokenmaxing leaderboards
2. co-workers who send low-effort low-quality pr's that introduce tons of complexity and waste everyone's time and that they cant answer basic questions about because they no longer know how it works
3. the absolute cult-like manic behavior with some people around "ai"... yes its fun and interesting and cool tech so please stop treating it like a religion ffs

i might have agreed with you 4 months ago, but today with open source models i am surprised as anyone with the progress compared to frontier... so much so that i also picked up one of those $250 cards!

the local models open source harnesses are really improving quite fast; just a few months ago i couldn't get any tool calling to work, and responses were very slow (thinking going on too long etc) but now with some newer models on my macbook air, tool calling works and depending on the model, it returns from thinking fairly swiftly....
the news cycle has accelerated more and more over the years, and now peoples attention span is basically at the level of earthworms...
i feel like mchluhan (medium is the message) and guy debord (society of the spectacle) were so prescient...

its not shocking to me; in the end, those with capital get their way... whatever we all democracy nowadays has been lobbied and electioneered-by-money to hell and back with no end in sight
the path of most resistance... sometimes i wonder if apple's insistence on a mac + paid membership is a kind of intentional filter, like they want someone who's devoted enough to invest 100 bucks + a mac etc

n=1 but every job i've ever been at was time to code was like 10 or 15% of available time; its all the useless meetings/busywork caused by corporate structure and bad specs etc

thats something i've wondered too, but as a long time jira user i'd rather foss contribute to something better designed (both code and ux-wise) than rehash the mess of ux anti-patterns of jira... just my 2c
i've heard some water filters can take out pfass, and a lot of it comes from food containers (i guess takeout items etc) and non-stick cookware, water-proof clothes [0] so probably good idea to avoid those...

i have a theory: all file browsers suck, they just suck in different ways for different people
my other theory is that its entirely possible to make a good file browser, but nowadays theres not much investment in them beyond fixing major issues for most users...

also, i love column view in finder and that makes every other fileviewer (even the one in kde with the terminal) suck for me...
reading articles like this, i really wish people would before headlines before a group of paragraphs so i can scan the progression/points and see if its worth reading... a wall of paragraphs and a title like "software bonkers" doesn't help
