Have you considered freelancing? You can probably use your existing skills to get your first projects.

1) Not charging enough. This is harder than it sounds. First time I significantly increased my price was when I didn't want any extra work, so I asked for double my rate. After closing that deal I started aiming higher.

2) Not creating content sooner. There hasn't been one thing that influenced my career as much as my blog - If there would be one thing I would do different it would be this: I would have started blogging earlier.

There are many kinds of thyme - one is good for tea (Thymus vulgaris) - but they get confused a lot.

this translates to: swift will be included with the next iOS

I you don't need a more complicated plan than: work a lot, teach others, have fun, never stop learning. You can't plan opportunities..

I run https://www.weheartswift.com/ the first site dedicated to the Swift Programming language.

I've also made an exercise platform similar to codeschool/codecademy/etc that is available as a mac app using playgrounds or online by using our swift sandbox https://www.weheartswift.com/swift-sandbox/

The site generates about 30k/year in revenue growing at a steady pace. Operating costs are around 10k / year for servers/software/subscriptions/marketing.

I need to spend about 2 weeks yearly updating the book/app to the last version of swift. I also spend about 5 minutes per day replying to customer emails. It's not that passive, but really close. (ignoring time spent developing products/book)

The app understands a lot of things about the code you used to solve and exercise. This comes either from understanding the syntax tree or from the output of the code. Based on that it gives feedback to the user. It can tell if a exercises is solved correctly. Or it can help fix mistakes: finding typos or checking if a function is recursive and many others... The usual feedback you would give a person that's learning how to code. So basically fancy training wheels. Another factor to consider is that people are lazy - working through the exercises without having to click "new project" 100 times is way easier.. + bonus a tiny amount of gamification. Also not sure if its clear - the learn how to code app is already implemented and used by over 1000 people. The iOS version is in development.

Love your idea! Don't like your land. Water is life. I think you need a place less deserty to execute this plan...
