All of the properties controls are bound to a network request. This is a big bummer. I don't like having to wait 400ms every time I change a color.

We shouldn't diminish the power of transform here. It's not just one property like opacity. You can animate quite a bit on the compositor with transform

I don't think you read it correctly. What we're doing, indeed what we've done since 2008, was borrow at a historically low interest rate to pay back interest and debt bought at a higher interest rate.

We are actively working on a gmail add-on which would allow you to not give us access to your inbox, rather, publish single threads to the site through the gmail interface. We have a few tickets open with Google to narrow the scope of the permissions available to us for exactly that reason! :)

One of the features we have is a naive suggestion engine. Upon signing up you can feed the app a list of keywords. These key words are used to surface relevant threads from your inbox.

That didn't really answer the question. I think the user understood the article, just asking for clarification on why this negatively impacts the experience of users on the platform.

Out of curiosity, why don't you think you can delete Facebook? I have a few friends whose jobs are in new media spaces and have thrown out a couple reasons off the cuff. After talking through those scenarios though, we concluded it's entirely reasonable and practical to delete their Facebook accounts, and it wouldn't negatively impact their livelihood as much as they originally thought.

It sounds like your experience with SPA's is the exception, not the rule. I have never built a product or website using Angular or React that performs as poorly as you describe.

- Routing modules in all the major frameworks interact directly with the history APIs, and are fast as f*.

- There are only a handful of locations in the US where you can expect sub 100ms server round trips, usually they're around 300ms, but lets call that negligible. The real time spent waiting is usually if you're executing some complex database query over large data sets. This has nothing to do with SPA's vs Monoliths. Even so, it sounds like you just experienced bad code if you're waiting 6 seconds for a modal to open.

Also...React with React DOM is only 10kb larger than jquery, and when gzipped it's only 37kb.

Can you elaborate? I don't think I understand what you mean.

What I would take away from that notion is that large is relative. A large portion of the country still has fewer people than New York City.

I am of course, not trying to start a flame war either, but my take on it is that those sorts of issues would be inappropriate to bring up at work or in a job interview in the first place, regardless of your position.

Based on your description, I believe I probably espouse the opposite position on those issues, and even though I work at a large tech company in NYC I still don't bring them up at work.

That said, I can totally see where you're coming from. I have a friend who ended up being a pretty staunch Donald Trump supporter, and I watched as a lot of colleagues ostracized him (even though he never really brought it up at work).

It takes hard work to see past issues that divide us. In the case of my friend, I always just try to focus on our shared interests. It's what has kept us friends.

In closing...there are of course different degrees of ideas that people will tolerate, and it may just be that large cities have spoken, and they don't want intolerant people in their ranks.
