I wonder if part of this is usage by newer Android based emulators [1] used for emulating x86-based PC games on powerful snapdragon based devices (Retroid Pocket 6, AYN Odin 2 line, AYN Thor, AYANEO Pocket S2, etc).

[1] GameNative, GameHub (and GameHub lite)

Does this block something like Obtainium?

https://f-droid.org/packages/dev.imranr.obtainium.fdroid/

This is sad as there’s been a real resurgence of gaming devices (Ayn Thor/Odin, Retroid pocket devices, Ayaneo, etc) moving to Android from Linux variants (Batocera, Arc, Garlic/OnionOS).

It’s sad but more of an incentive for folks to finally take Linux as a viable alternative, and build on efforts made by Valve with SteamOS.

Weren’t foreign nations gonna pay the tariffs? What is this with requiring each customer to pay $10 per watch?

It’s funny how these very tariffs were introduced to “combat inflation” end up increasing it by an order of magnitude.

Thank you for the contextualization - but Iran’s handling is nowhere close to Islamic, not observing the hijab doesn’t take you out of the fold of Islam (also where have men been held to the hijab - covering awrah, in such places?) - the 5 pillars are the fardh, everything else is something we strive towards.

Allah SWT’s mercy is boundless, hudhud punishments can’t be enacted for something minor of this sort. Iranian government lost the plot and is using every excuse to feign legitimacy when it never had any.

As someone who did the same move with the release of Pixel Pro 6, I deeply regret it. Google Maps in a minimized view fared worse than my iPhone 8 plus for multitasking, that is bound to cause some traffic accidents if a driver tries multitasking while on a car mount.

Frustrating how the best software engineers can't compete with a hardware company (Apple Inc).

A lot of old 90's "hacks" are still commonplace in current email design. Thanks to Outlook's reliance on a brain dead MS Word-based rendering system rather than using actual modern HTML5.

And since Outlook is still the standard for email clients in the workplace, all other systems are impacted as well.

It's interesting to see modern day developers struggle with email design and turn to folks like us :D

I'm thinking of changing jobs and the need for me to do leetcode and answer trivia gotcha questions vexes me. More than 10 years of professional experience and like 5-6 years of hobbyist experience as a web master for 00's websites, and managing ecommerce sites with >$1M's in revenue doesn't count for anything.

Culture shock 5 years ago

To be fair, shirtless men are a lot less common in urban India. Not the same in the "countryside" or villages as we refer to rural areas.

India has certain public decency laws which prohibits exposure (not sure if shirtless would qualify), PDA, etc.

India is also famously not one of the fitter countries - so it's also a matter of body image issues.

Culture shock 5 years ago

As an Indian in the states - my observation was that obesity in the US seems like a class issue. Most well-off folks are fit and working out is woven into their lifestyles. Others can't as they're probably working 2-3 jobs to make ends meet.

Chromecast video quality is atrocious though. I have a Chromecast Ultra on my Roku TV (TCL 6-series QLED) considered to be a mid-range panel and has decent color accuracy, but on Chromecast all of it is out the window, the same video on the YouTube TV (native app) on Roku is so much better looking and accurate.

Not sure who’s to blame here.

Do you have a twitter or a blog where one could follow your progress - I'm the opposite, used to be super into fitness and stopped dead on tracks due to injury, COVID, depression all of which have caused an Insulin resistance. I've gotten my jabs, but would still prefer to return to fitness via a home gym.

Curious to learn more about maximizing the use of a very expensive hardware (for me).

I’ve heard the same about SpaceX employees being promised Tesla stock for helping them out with some Engineering challenges and then being conned out of them, and the case of (again) SpaceX engineers promised Starlink stock (it’s about to be spun off) and then conned after having pitched in to help on it.

The more I learn about how his employees are treated the more I wonder if these companies would be sustainable over the years.

I’m not sure if you’re aware, but the manufacturing industry & the global supply chain is still reeling from the COVID pandemic closures - there’s a well documented microchip shortage, and other prices have been jacked up due to the reduced capacity of global supply chain. The inflation angle isn’t really the reason for the price hike/stagnation.

Connectivity at airports is not the best - if you’re on an expensive data plan those extra MBs cost a pretty penny which might put off the customer.

You need to think about the larger picture.

Not sure what to make of this. I’m Indian and the last time I was in India, there was strict execution of the seatbelt law and offenders were made to wait and fined heavily. Most drivers were wearing seatbelts.

Maybe because it was in Chennai, a southern state and not in Mumbai or Delhi.
