This is not wearables. It is just a tiny screen mobile device. I'd consider labeling Google Glass a wearables before what was demoed here.

Wearables is the idea of changing what we wear with technological augmentation. Watches have had tech for a long time....nothing new here sadly....

Perian has been the first thing I install on every mac I own/use.

A sad day.

Perian team, great job guys and thanks for the many years of awesomeness.

I have two suggestions:

Activate a 'quiet' mode? In quiet mode nothing is sent to people's feeds.

Daily Digest mode. Daily digest would do just that. Lump all update in a day into 1 news feed.

I'd be happy with either option.

I got the same "yeah lol, whatever" email last night after I emailed them my concerns regarding their support of SOPA.

Knowing they helped create SOPA is the most damaging fact in my opinion which is why I'm still heading for the door.

I admired Bob back in the day but it seems things have changed over the years.

As Edward Tufte would probably put it, I feel some fidelity to the comments has been lost without the scores. The score for me added a 'feel of the community' for each of the comments left and that only mattered IFF the comment actually was worth reading.

As to the disturbing situation you mention I'd look to finding a way to make such behavior more shameful.

Contributing to an open source project that you admire will do wonders. Any contribution you do will be scrutinized and you will get some good advice on your works.

Also remember to also hang out and become a regular with the developers on the corresponding freenode irc #channel.

Totally agree. I couldn't believe that TC decided to put the comments system (the only reason visit TC) in a walled garden that is Facebook. I myself have all FB widgets blocked at my proxy so it took me a while to realize why there were no comments when I clicked through.

Delegating the primary form of participation on your site to an outside firm strikes me as a bad idea. Maybe Facebook is paying TC to use their system?

This has happened to every social network that has come before and it will happen again.

Facebook like its predecessors Myspace, Friendster et al., is not the destination but rather the current milestone in the evolution of the Internet, the real Social Network.

I'm afraid he is misreading what is happening. Apple was never going to own the cellular market like it does the portable music market.

The real story is how Android is destroying Windows Mobile, Blackberry and et. al.

But alas writing such a story isn't as sensational as "Apple Loses Again!!"

*Sigh

I've been doing tai chi for 8 years now and love it. It is peaceful while being very powerful.

My recommendation to any newbies is to get past the awkward beginning stage as fast as you can...otherwise you will not progress smoothly.

When I started I went to 4 classes a week. In 3 months I still knew very little but I wasn't feeling like a n00b and embarrassed. I got over the hump.

I started running again after I read Spark by John Ratey. Look it up on Amazon or your local library. Yes we are born to run and then hack it seems.

Of course I am totally wired up with a heart rate monitor/watch/iphone/gps which makes it more fun.

Whatever works for you. Run or whatever gets you pumping then hack like you never have.

You can slightly reduce the dangers stated here by logging out immediately after you are done doing whatever it is you are doing. This will make the captured session useless.

The best solution is of course to get a VPN acct and use it when you are at free/open wifi spots. I use WiTopia (www.witopia.net)
