It looks like they made people do things that require more short term oxygen uptake and as a result they adapted to be able to uptake more oxygen in the short term. I wouldn't so readily dismiss the myriad of other physical adaptations that result from long term, high volume, low intensity exercise, such as improved bone density, better fat metabolism, stronger heart muscles, better endurance and resilience, better mental health and cognition etc.

You may be right, but the reason I put that in the title was because it begins by siting a bunch of other research evidencing that “short-term fasting ...can protect healthy cells against a wide variety of stressors, including chemotherapy”, because in the trial they were able to omit dexamethasone with no negative effects, and because “chemotherapy-induced DNA damage in T-lymphocytes“ was “significantly curtailed”

If you compare 100ml oatly to 100ml normal semi skimmed milk, it’s lower in calories, sugar, fat, has about 5 x less saturated fat, definitely doesn’t contain any hormones, antibiotics, casein, and probably doesn’t raise your igf1 either

So, most captchas don't seem to pose much of a barrier to bots that need to get round them.

A couple of months ago there was an article on the state of web scraping in 2016: https://goo.gl/eUtkRA. In it, the author easily identified and integrated one of many captcha solvers.

Worst case scenario, there is also crowdsourced mechanical turk style captcha solving as a service: e.g. https://anti-captcha.com.

I guess this raises the question as to whether captchas pose more of a barrier to users than bots, and whether they should be used at all?

I understand the whole 'paradox of choice' thing - but this should never be seen as a negative. It is a sign of a strong, healthy community making lots of progress.

If you're looking for popular tech, i think a good proxy is github stars.

Interesting, yea I guess that's exactly what would be required to achieve this, a function capable of reliably translating between path data formats and also canvas instructions. Path data can be annoying though, so many ways to express the same thing. Happy to collab on a jsfiddle? Once we have that the rest should be fairy simple.
