I'm about to launch a startup, do you do consulting for small companies with what I'd like to think is a big mission (likely similar to all startups lol)? In other words, is there some way to contact you and do you work with non-billion dollar startups if you find it worthwhile? Or is it more in line with 'read my books and call me when you raise your first million'?

One of the best things about HN is a fairly troll-free environment. My politics is/was different than Clinton but I don't think he was convicted of that crime.

Not just the UK govt but same with the US govt. Loss of domain-specific knowledge is a real problem is one problem. When project deadlines slip, government departments have no choice but to pay whatever the cost for extending the contract since the specific knowledge lies with the contracting company.

For MS to even think Recall was a good idea is quite worrisome.

Financial services, government departments (including things like criminal cases), healthcare - talk about a privacy and confidentiality nightmare.

It should be interesting to hear the inside story about how this was championed inside the company and how it got the greenlight from the higher ups.

Not sure how the legal authorities work in the UK but people have to be held accountable, regardless of political party. One would think the government's legal authorities have to act on behalf of the citizens not just in holding persons criminally responsible but also compensating victims.

Corporate decisions to increase prices have taken a lot out of paychecks.

It'll be interesting for many countries to see how this program fares. From anecdotal evidence on my part speaking to friends in Europe, Canada and some places in South America, it seems housing has become very expensive.

Don't know much about their management style and I'm pro-hybrid/work-from-home for jobs that can be done as such but their holding back drivers just as wifi was becoming pervasive seemed pretty low to many if I remember correctly.

What a disgusting cabin crew and flight crew. The women should get attorneys and take the airline to court. How is there no response by the airline? Passengers flying Air Canada need to know which pilot found it so trivial and easy to threaten passengers who didn't want to fly in vomit-covered seats.

All the passengers on that flight who were subject to that disgusting flying environment should be refunded their tickets.

Various bodies that track worldwide congestion/traffic show traffic trending upwards for years now. Of course not counting the CoVid year(s) but afterwards, it has been on an upwards trend. Even in "less developed" areas in the Caribbean, Latin America and Africa the trends are to greater congestion and the associated lost time, deaths, increased pollution and lower quality of life.

As for tipping in the Apple store, it's already a "hope I look like I have money and am worth their time" experience lol. So it'll be interesting to see if they use tips to acknowledge someone.

I've read a lot about Mr Musk's intelligence and many people commenting on those stories would often claim his intellect was media hype.

I never knew and obviously still don't but he's equating the environments needed to do things such as welding automobile frames with software and marketing and accounting? It's fairly obvious to even a third grader that the job environment and necessities for a cafeteria worker and a bookkeeper are quite different.

Salaries esp in tech and tech management are much better elsewhere even in the state itself.

Jacksonville I believe was ranked as the fastest growing US metro area but I might be mistaken on that. Orlando is seeing serious and major construction - both residential and even more so commercial.

The traffic is awful but that's a given in I think every major city I've spent months or lived in - DC, Atlanta, etc.

You should take a look at Orlando and Tampa (45 minutes from Orlando) and maybe Jacksonville if you're trying to escape the snow and that type of weather. But if you're committed to moving to South Florida, maybe also look about 30 minutes north of it to Ft Lauderdale and those areas. Tampa/St Petersburg has some great beaches too if you're into beaches.

You can get objective criteria. As someone who lived there until literally months ago for much of my adulthood, there are definitely serious issues for a tech/startup city.

The education system isn't highly rated overall so you'll have to choose carefully if you have kids. Similar if you're depending on a pool of local tech talent.

There was some social media stuff about it being a tech city but that was based on the mayor's Twitter exchange with Elon and then some sort of sales guy in the mayor's office and their hype.

For all the social media blips it generated, no major tech companies have moved any offices there since and many of the local companies are looking to move either upstate to areas like Orlando (or even out of state) to get away from of the Miami issues.

Take objective results like cost of living, rent, education quality (if you have kids it's one measure and hiring is another of course), traffic, crime, average income, etc. Maybe even go and visit for a couple months in the summer since people from up north would sometimes complain about our heat and humidity lol.

It's likely that in the area of content moderation and related matters, employee numbers do matter.
