Well, Google is a big company. Politics are a thing. A lot of younger hires don't know how to navigate that kind of environment. I had a lot of trouble in that area. I joined a smaller firm and things improved dramatically. As the smaller firm grew, I grew into understanding and learning how to navigate politics gradually.
You find this in every single industry. I used to work in public accounting and it was just like this. Google isn't special in this regard.

My sister got this after a particularly grueling Crossfit session. She chalked it up to her being sore but her fiancé is a pediatrician and recognized the symptoms. Had she gone another 24 hours without treatment she could have destroyed her kidneys.
1. It wasn't available in my city initially. I'm still not sure if it is. I checked fairly frequently and was never notified. That was at least a year and a half ago.
2. Applied for an iOS gig with them after they posted on HN. I've been building apps for clients for 5 years now. Never got a reply. I even followed up with their lead personally via email. Nada. Just seemed weird since they kept posting to HN asking for talent.
I have worked a few weekends in a row for a few hours. I opted to not work one weekend and my PM went to my manager to raise concern about getting deliverables out in time for a client.
