I completely agree with you, because I usually think the same way and I'm more concerned with the result than the path taken to achieve it. But you shouldn't forget that there are definitely people who work the exact opposite way. They don't care at all about having something functional in their hands at the end, because they just enjoy the process of building. And as soon as it's finished, they tear it all down anyway just to start over again with a different approach.
I'm not really sure what to make of this. First of all, I think this decision should be left to the project maintainers rather than being dictated by the platform itself. Besides that, I don't think Codeberg is doing itself any favors here. It's kind of turning a blind eye to reality. AI is already an integral part of modern software development and can't just be ignored. For some open-source projects, this obviously makes Codeberg a risky platform to use.
There's little to add to that. I've been a Kagi user for years now; I've kept an eye out for alternatives time and again, but I just haven't found anything even close to Kagi. I can understand if people simply don't want to or can't shell out $5 a month, but if someone is able to, those are probably the best $5 anyone who does a lot of internet research and uses AI can possibly invest.
I completely agree. This isn't about physical discs vs. digital stores. It's about ownership. When I, as a customer, pay a lot of money for something and get nothing more than a temporary right of use, then something is going seriously wrong here. And no, I don't think you can compare it to movie streaming. With streaming, I pay a monthly fee for access to the platform. I don't pay for every single movie I watch. That's a completely different deal. If Sony offered a flat-rate gaming subscription for a monthly fee (and no, PlayStation Plus isn't that), then I'd be totally fine with losing access to the games included there after canceling the sub. But if I, as a customer, am expected to shell out 70-80 bucks for a single game, I want to actually own that game - physical or digital copy regardless!
I've built up a pretty large collection of physical games over the years on two shelves behind me. And every now and then, I really enjoy playing some of those older titles. It took me almost half a year just to get a disc drive for my PS5 Pro. Half a year where I couldn't play my favorite games anymore and had a useless new console just sitting there next to me. I'm actually a bit worried about the next console generation - is it going to make my entire game collection unplayable and useless?
I'd almost bet that OpenAI will do the same thing with its plans as soon as Anthropic makes the first move. It's just a matter of who blinks first.
Sooner or later, Anthropic will probably have to take this step if they want to actually make money. Either way, they're going to lose a huge chunk of their user base because of it. I currently have a private Pro subscription for $20; I can just barely justify that amount for my personal hobby projects. Work-wise, my employer provides all of that for me, so I don't really care - this is just for my personal needs. But at $100, I'm out. The subscription isn't worth it to me just to run a few prompts in Claude Code once a week (yes, I'm still one of those people who is actually capable of, and enjoys, writing code by hand). I do use Claude Chat as well, but the free plan is more than sufficient for my needs (never ran into any limit until now). I simply have zero interest in Cowork and any products other than Claude Code.
In short: if Claude Code is removed from the Pro plan, Claude in general will no longer be interesting for people like me.
I absolutely disagree. Tools should always be built for humans, not for machines! Believe it or not, I'm still one of those people who is actually capable of operating their own computer and doing meaningful work without any AI assistant (and I am proud of it). If that possibility or ability is taken away from me because the applications on my computer can only be operated through an AI — then I'm out and start a carer in woodworking or something.

I use Gruvbox Dark (hard) wherever I can. I found the community made themes pretty decent for this one. Can’t say the same about Monokai. I tried a few, but all of them looked different. They didn’t even use same color palette.
Nord looks very nice. But the lack of contrast in its colors makes it a bit too hard to read for me.
In terms of aesthetics, Monokai Pro is my favorite color scheme. However, what always stops me from using it is the fact that it is simply only available for an handfull of tools. Personally, a consistent look between the tools I use on a daily basis is extremely important to me. And that is exactly the reason for me to spend money on a color scheme or a programming font. I just don't want to spend hours or even days customizing themes for every single tool. Even though I personally don't like the color choices of the Dracula theme (https://draculatheme.com/) very much, I appreciate the fact that it comes preconfigured for almost every application. Wish there was a similar selection for Monokai Pro.
I'm shocked. 90% of my game library is physical. So if the console is priced at 799 € without a disc drive, and the drive costs an additional 149 €, that totals 948 € if I want to continue playing my existing disc collection. No, thanks!
What delay are you talking about? I never encountered such issues. Apps are launching extremely fast. With an ARM Mac almost instantly.
But maybe it’s just an issue if you are using the App Store variants of those apps. I don’t have experience in that. I am using zero apps from the App Store.
I have to admit, I read the article and the comments and can't help but smile a little. Personally, I switched from Windows to macOS & iOS (Linux on my second computer) back in 2013. Even though I am still ridiculed by Windows users for my Apple ecosystem, I have never regretted this step myself. macOS has never felt like it was patronizing me or getting in my way - it just works. While all my colleagues who use Windows are still busy setting up their development environment for every single project, I've been able to work for a long time because I configured the whole thing once many years ago. In short, my tolerance threshold for poor user experience in software has simply dropped to 0. And I can only encourage everyone to make the switch if you're not happy - sometimes the grass really is greener on the other side.
Berkeley Mono is also my favourite font. I use it in the terminal, editor and for my IDE. It's a bit expensive, and I can understand if someone can't or doesn't want to spend money on it. I would recommend to check out the free fonts 'JetBrains Mono' & 'Hack' to these people.
Some people have already mentioned here that Berkeley Mono is not available as Nerd Font. I would like to briefly point out that Nerd Fonts provides a font patcher tool (https://github.com/ryanoasis/nerd-fonts#font-patcher).

$10/mo for unlimited searches would be great. I recently subscribed to Kagi. So unlucky I don’t have the early adopters benefit. Kagi is a great product. But constantly having to think about my included amount of searches and making the the decision whether to use Kagi or a free search engine is making it kind of impractical to me. As long as there is the need to constantly switch between two search engines, I can no longer justify the high price for Kagi.
Because they want higher quality search experience, have their privacy respected and/or do not like the entire order of things on the web where they are constantly being the product.
I really wish it would be that way. But from my personal experience non-tech affine people don’t care about privacy or ads that much (as long as it’s free). Just take my wife and father-in-law as an example: They have Google as their startpage in the browser. And instead of directly typing the URL into the browser bar, they will always do a search for it. I told them so many times, but they literally don’t care. And they are not completely wrong since it works for them. 99% of the time Google will return what they are looking for within the first result. No chance I can convince them to suddenly pay $5-10 for the same thing.
Having a low entry is very important to get new users on board. But the included searches of 200 in the standard plan is extremely low. Even a normal user will hit this limit quickly (if not, they are not your target group - or why should they consider paying for a search engine anyway). This makes the standard plan absolutely unattractive even for non-tech-savvy professionals. But the professional plan also only offers 700 searches for $10.
Personally, I think Kagi needs to reconsider their pricing plans and either lower the monthly price or significantly raise the limit for included searches. Otherwise I don't know if I can judge $10 per month for a premium search engine whose service will not even last me for a whole month.

Agree. When I stared reading the article I was exited at first. I generally agree that terminals have a lot of legacy issues from the past and could definitely use some innovation. But I don’t see the point why a terminal should require internet-connection at all. There is absolutely no reason any of the features Warp mentions, couldn’t be implemented in a way to work completely offline. Good luck, but I don’t think any people using terminals as their daily drivers will ever use a product like this.
I like the pastel color pallet of Nord very much. However, once tried to use in my text editor, and it was awful to read since everything was just blueish and very hard to distinguish. A bit more use of its colors would be good.
Actually that’s a fantastic idea. Should have thought of that for myself. But as a warning, a lot of the Dracula themes are are not correctly (for some reason especially the Dracula Pro themes). For example the iTerm and Kitty theme have same foreground and background color set so I had to fix them manually. Doesn’t seem that they are tested by the author.
Does someone know of a tool that helps to generate the themes for the individual applications based on your preferred color scheme? I am currently using Dracula (https://draculatheme.com/) as color scheme. Not that it is my favourite color scheme (actually I don’t like it’s colours at all), but the fact that the creator is providing ready to use themes for almost every application is the main reason for me to use it. I want a consistent look across all of my applications.
PiHole & AdGuard are DNS blockers. Those tools are only serving/blocking domain mame requests. So they are not aware of the actual request your client is sending to those servers (to for example download a file). So no, by the nature of the DNS protocol this is not possible with those tools. What you probably wanna do is to use some kind of proxy which does deep package inspection (be aware that this is very resource intensive since you have to break up encryption and stuff).
Properly not worth it for the task you described. Simply add a DNS whitelist to AdGuard or manually unblock those domains causing issues.
Blocking cookie banners is not the correct solution as it breaks a lot of websites. What you actually want is to accept them with your preferred choices.
As an European I agree. I am a bit afraid of this new feature since I might not agree with Apple what falls into the category of sensitive content and what I would consider as ok. In fact there is a big cultural difference. For me personally a nipple or even a fully exposed breast is not a problem (we even have that on public TV), whereas explicit shots of genitals I would agree fall into a category which should be censored.
You are right that it is harder those days to find good quality content on YouTube. Most of the content you get presented is just click bait and optimised for monetarisation. However, the real issue here is the assumption that people need AI optimised personal content recommendations. The opposite is the case. Now we trained all those algorithms over the years and were teaching them to recommend us all this shitty content. Welcome to the future!
