We have free instant payments in the Eurozone, UK has had them for about a decade and I'd say PayPal is doing fine (unfortunately). So what's the concern?

I used to work on for a company on a product that did exactly this, but the company stopped working on that product since it didn't go anywhere (API docs seem to still be online though :D https://docs.satoshipay.io/api/). Some small publishers liked it, big ones wanted to force their customers to subscribe (whilst recording their data at the same time).

I really like the general idea though and hope it does make a comeback. I think it would be good for review/test sites especially.

This can be enabled or disabled under the System Settings > Battery > Options > Wake for network access (Always / Power adapter / Never). Or possibly the phone registers it as connected for a while after it sends its last packet?

Funny, this sounds like a good idea, but I'm quite happy with the exact opposite: I use rcmd[1]. I hold down the right command key and press the first letter of the window name to switch to it. I can override this dynamic mapping by pressing right command + option + <other key>, so I have an IM client on I, for example. It means I never have to remember/guess how command+tab works (although I had fewer issues with alt+tab on Windows)

I really want to write more often, I'm not sure if it's that I don't know what to write about or that the idea of blogging doesn't come to mind easily when I'm doing things that I could blog about.

Yes, there's a different kind of debit card. I usually use a different term that's country-specific (like the cards themselves).

For Germany, a German debit card (the "other sort", as you put it) isn’t the same as any other. It doesn’t have Visa or MasterCard co-branding like other countries’ debit cards, nor a 16 digit number, so it can’t be used online. I might also use the term "bank card" for this, because there are actual debit cards with Visa/MC co-branding which are available in Germany, but less common than other types.

It's also common for Germans to use "Kreditkarte" to mean anything with Visa/MC co-branding, which probably spills over into English. This also leads to the hilarious term "echte Kreditkarten" (real credit cards) for cards that actually have a rolling line of credit attached (these are rarely offered).

However, in the UK I recall that people are usually specific about whether they mean a credit card or a debit card.

Something somewhat similar already happened: Stellar gave away XLM to Keybase after Keybase added an integrated Stellar wallet. Many people didn’t like it[0], even I was not too impressed despite working in the Stellar ecosystem. Some people didn’t like the mix of cryptography and cryptocurrency (at least, I certainly didn’t)

hyperscript (`h()`) had its first commit 9 years ago and the syntax is common in other rendering libraries (e.g. mithril, ivi).

_hyperscript (this one) seems to have released 0.0.1 only last year.

Definitely very confusing on the naming front. It is at least possible to disambiguate searches with the underscore.

As a previous Android user, this feels right. I think the tipping point was the replacement of the e-mail app with Gmail. After that, I got frustrated with the stock app situation and switched to LineageOS to avoid it.

As a current Apple user, this feels wrong. I bought iDevices because I don't want my data shared, and want reasonable stock apps—I don't want to spend days comparing every single calendar app because the choice is "necessary". Apple promote third-party apps in the App Store anyway, even when they do the same as their stock apps.

With macOS and iOS, Airdrop, as others have stated. For other platform combinations, there is NitroShare[1] which works in almost the same way.
