Edit: it may have been a different watchman, but same point still applies.

It’s been a few years, so perhaps it got addressed, but this library used to introduce a “memory leak” by design, by infinity storing pointers to files being watched.

Ultimately I ended up fixing it by writing my own version using native system calls available on Node.

The moral of the story, this library is great if you are building cross platform dev tool. It is not (at least wasn’t at the time) great for long lived processes that target only one type of operating system.

Glad to see it trending again. I raised the same concern years ago, and was mostly ridiculed. Nothing has changed since then.

I’ve been using Google Drive integration to share photos securely, but Google just announced that this will be going away.

In addition I realized that Google strips out metadata from my files during conversion. Common sense, but not something I thought about before.

Time to switch. If anybody has good alternatives I am all ears.

Sorry, it came of stronger than I wanted to. I actually run into high CPU utilization shortly after I posted it. Haven't had it for a full year, may be something in later version got messed up. I did go away after refreshing FF though, so I do recommend trying it to see if it will fix things. I am routing for FF, but it's definitely not perfect.

I don't know what these commenters are talking about. I've been using FF on Mac for over a year now on 3 different Mac Machines. It's super fast, as good as Chrome. May be you need to reset it or something to get it working properly. The only issue I had with FF is Developer Tools, which are also have improved a lot with latest release, and continuing to improve.

I don’t, but it’s not the reality. Reality is that 80% or more of companies (in my experience) rely on those types of questions for interviews.

I would say most do, which puts seniors at huge disadvantage.

I got to interview a lot of people in the past 2 years, and I noticed that new grads are REALLY good at solving Leetcode type of problems.

The expectation in the industry is that Senior people would be even better at it, because of their years of experience.

This,however, is not what I’ve seen on the ground. Most senior devs that I interviewed, who were clearly smart and experienced took much longer than new grads to solve most of the questions. Personally, I try not to hold it against them, if they can clear the bar, but I wonder how many other people do the same.

Also, I know in music they do blind interviews, were people perform behind a curtain to avoid any biases they might have (gender, race etc).

May be it’s time to do something similar in Software, since we already are prioritizing white board interviews above anything else?

Edit: I am not advocating for Leetcode types of questions. I do believe that most companies hire like this (including my current company, where I get minor if any say in hiring process). So just pointing out my observations regarding the status quo.

I think the 80/20 rule applies when it comes to mature products. 20% of redesign is useful and make products better. 80% are neutral at best, and breaking at worst.

If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

Sounds too good to be true, but also brilliant. Curious what others think. What are the downsides?

I think most people don’t realize just how expensive it is to live here, until they get here.

Babel is a commonly used plug-in Webpack though. So I am guessing all projects that used Babel/Webpack got TypeScript support for free. It’s a TIL for me, definitely going to have to look into this. Sounds exciting.

The quiet people like that are the best people in my book and definitely not who I am referring to.

That’s more than double average salary. Seems like worth going for it, even knowing that they will fire you eventually. Hold on for 6 months, make a yearly salary, take 6 months off :)

I would rather them do nothing or work on throw away code. I spend way too much of my time fixing other people’s bugs :(
