I was on a call with their sales rep and he was awful. Even if I told him what kind of volume we're looking at, the guy didn't want to talk costs, over two meetings. Very poor experience. Seems like they're designing pricing around how much money you have.

A guy from a company with probably the worst history of unethical or even illegal behavior in the industry, got all worked up about guys doing link building outreach.

I would love to use iOS devices but somehow I just can't accept I can't run Linux on them. I understand, it's all great and neat and etc. but I also believe IT professionals should use open source OS if possible at all. I don't have strong arguments for this so I understand people have different expectations and understanding.

Sometime those start-up gurus sound like self-help gurus.

Honestly, a lot of bloat is coming from WordPress, which is a platform that encourages bad development practices.

I had this client with content WordPress website, 50-so plugins and regular blog post would have 1 MB JavaScript.

It's crazy. WordPress is epic mess and at the same time one of the most fascinating software platforms.

I don't even know what to compare it with.

Problem with google is that they are losing data game.

They own the web but meanwhile web became only one medium among many and a lot of companies build their own "web"

Instagram app is essentially a browser to use IG's private "web" of content google has no access to.

Same goes for twitter, even Snapchat.

So attention wise, google is loosing dominance as other companies are building their own protocols on top of web.

Speaking of data,they own search intent (via Google) and web content (via Google analytics).

However I'd say Facebook is ingesting way more data on non-content usage. They made much easier for advertisers to connect into FBs audience graphs and cross reference and retarget based on first-party visitor profiles.

All tools suck in a way that actual reality of doing work is complicated and tools are obviously way simpler so you end up trying to reduce the reality to fit the model of a particular tool.

That explains why email is still the most used tool. It also sucks but you can do any type of project with email and everyone knows how to use it.

I try to use Jira whenever I can. It sucks. But the thing is everything else also suck so for me Jira sucks a little bit less.

When tax payers foot the bill it's easy to spend entire morning on a single line commit.

For many or most guys out there, reality is way different. For one, it's an actual reality, not VC or government funded Utopia.

who are "we" that don't want that? The homeless population would definitely want that.

You don't get it. Why would they need to quit drugs or go somewhere? If we want that, we're capable to put them by force where ever we want. We're also able to put them on drug rehab by force if we want to.

But the point is something else. If it turns out homeless people are assembling under the bridge, redo the bridge to be liveable or create something nearby that would attract them to go and live there. If they're throwing trash around, put people there to collect trash or create an environment where it would be easier to dispose trash in a safe way. Money is beint spent to assimilate homeless people and it's obviously not working.

Don't tell me that a country who put a man on Moon can't deliver sanitary service to millions citizens so they have to shit on the streets?

Philosophy on how people should live is not a set in stone.

It's a moving target and it should be moving in a direction of achieving the best outcome for everyone, regardless if they're investment bankers or heroin addicts.

People thinking like you have been trying to stop progress since we got down from the trees. It's this ridiculous idea that how things are now is something that has to be kept and preserved.

It is a disservice to humanity - those ideas never survive history test, just cause better future for everyone to come later than it could.

Take children playgrounds for example - you have them where you have a lot of families with kids, right? And that makes sense since that is kind of public infrastructure supporting the needs of a certain population.

However, homeless people are not considered as population, they're considered as aberration. If we consider them as just another population we need to support with public services, maybe every neighborhood would have facilities for homeless population, like you have facilities for pets owners, parents, as you have parks, bike trails, etc.

Have you ever camped in a camping spot somewhere? You get electricity, bathrooms, access to kitchen etc.

If we could accept the fact that some people want to live on the streets, we would be able to make their life much easier and better without imposing a certain philosophy on how they should be living.

Why do we expect that people should live in house or have a home?

Maybe we need to design our cities and public places in a way that they would be approachable for people living outside?

Why we wouldn't have camping spots in cities with infrastructure that supports living outside?

I think we should fight for private communication to be a human right, nothing less than that. So if terrorists have right for a fair trial, they should also have a right to communicate privately.

They would do better if they spent 100M on ads to promote Firefox downloads.

Privacy is a lost cause. Sure, you'll probably get anonymity ie. your PII are gonna be scrambled, but all our activities are gonna be streamed to AI engines for commercial and entertainment purpose.

And people are generally okay with that because said engines are producing a lot of value in terms of targeted ads, better suggestions etc.

What's going on at the moment is that governments are feeling left out because they wouldn't mind running their own AI engines to shape public discourse and opinions.

But the trouble is - they don't have data. The big tech has data so I believe fight for data access is underlying reason for anti big tech momentum building up over the past few years.

How would you compare grid reliability to reliability of huge networks such as Google's or Facebook's? Scale might be comparable.

There's always something to work on, so the problem is sometimes that growth teams are ofte too narrowly focused. You're done with landing page, then move on AdWords. You're done with AdWords, move on improving sales team. Making forms work better is not everything.

I still use first gen iPad for occasional Netflix and it's working just fine. Hopefully Netflix won't drop the support for older clients like YouTube did.
