Failure to recognize immigration as a problem for a sizeable chunk of the population--rightly or wrongly--ensures that they will fall pray to demagogues and will never again trust those who repeatedly blew them off.

Progressives fuck this up continually across the policy spectrum, by having no answer other than "no you're wrong/immoral/stupid" to people who express concerns in categories that have strong orthodoxy requirements.

(amazing username.)

You assume that a lady getting an abortion is not committing murder--these folks clearly think she is.

(We don't need to argue about whether it is in fact murder, or whether if it is that the murder is justified or not--just understand that there are people that believe differently, and apparently they're willing to expend police resources on it.)

First read of this pissed me off, but subsequent reads gave a much different opinion.

Do yourself a favor and read this, a few times, and take a moment to actually try and see what the author's getting at.

What do you think the purpose of USAID was, out of curiosity?

Well, humans obviously do those jobs, so a clearly a general purpose robot (in this case, a biorobot) has been found to do the job better. Don't overthink it.

This is such an obviously correct comment that I imagine it'll languish down below the fold.

Playing off of it, the submission says something worth highlighting:

One of them builds autonomous weapons for the Pentagon.

Luckey was perfectly happy doing VR at Facebook until he got shoved out over politics.

It's not just letting the non-nerds in--it's a decade-plus long campaign to push nerds out if they have the wrong ideology.

I do not understand why you are being downvoted for what is, essentially, a statement of bald fact and realpolitick.

Trump took advantage of a party already weakened by the Tea Party, and successfully turned it into a cult of personality at a time when the opposition was ideologically unprepared to deal with very real policy issues that their constituents were observing.

Do not read Doctor uncritically.

An army of wreckers, led by the demagogue John Farson (who styles himself "The Good Man") are slowly but surely conquering the land, laying waste to those few remaining outposts of civilization and conscripting the young men in the conquered lands to march on their neighbors.

What he's leaving out is that in the novels Farson explicitly was a rabble-rouser pushing for democracy, egalitarian rule, and the downfall of the aristocratic class--and he used that to cloak anti-social behavior and butchery.

Sound familiar?

(Not that Cory is a butcher--hah!--but that he's deliberately eliding the "type" of demagogue Farson is. Consider why that might be.)

It helps if you look at Zitron's work history and experience. He's a hype man and a games journalist. His opinions on this are whatever sells, not exactly whatever is correct.

This is alarmingly obvious whenever he talks out of his depth about things like how companies actually use AI and reason about business decisions.

Real talk: which kids have you interacted with? What social class? What ethnicity? What household structure (nuclear, multigenerational, single parent, single parent plus intermittent partner, divorced with shared custody, dirtbag but grandparent covering)?

I've found that the people who are more optimistic about kids tend to live in a particular category of socioneconomic bubble.

I don't even trust the American people to handle the relatively simple task of not voting for septuagenarians and felons, to his claim midway through, much less running and guiding a company.

I also love the claim that while it all is built on humanity's works, we would only be benefiting Americans--which is it, Bernie?

"A 50% tax on stock" is also a nice way of saying "we're going to nationalize these companies", which is not really something to be done lightly if at all.

Sanders continues to be a--well-meaning!--clown.
