They seem like a very bright team capable of tackling it to me. Alfred was cool 10, or like 5y ago, but like last time I got into packal (alfred community marketplace) it was all errors over the place, which didn't inspire much confidence to a casual user...

I don't know, I just like what they're doing, The new Extensions api looks really powerful. I ported an alfred script to raycast in like 2min...

YMMV

I don't care about the paid/team offerings honestly, I use it myself, my teammates can use whatever they want. But hopefully they will have enough enterprise customers to make the company thrive

Marketing. Good (looking) design. Money for patents and more marketing.

I had one at some time in my life, it was OK but not life changing to cost 10x what a normal regular vacuum would cost.

It's just like any luxury item mostly flexing and status signaling through purchasing stuff, or so it seems to me

Well ageism is a bitch in our sector, but you certainly have to have in mind that maybe for the same reason past-entrepreneurs are frowned upon, if they know you don't need the money, they know they can't force you to do stuff you don't want...

It's a bit like when they want to know if you've family/responsabilities, I doubt it is to pay you a salary going with those, but more to gauge if you'll be a good slave or not...

Anyways, if I was in your position, I would do whatever I want, but without working for a company anyways, is not fuck you money (or attitude) at leaat, if you still have to obey the boss on all the bullshit right?

Best of luck!

PS: Oh now I saw your username, I've read you a lot arund here Chris, I think you're doing great with your own libraries/iOS stuff, I don't see why you might need to apply to a company, maybe you should start yours instead. You would make a good leader

Github was acquired and isn't open source though.

VSCode is nice and open-source core maybe, but most important parts like server plugins remain proprietary.

Found this about TypeScript, Guessing some times the people can change the company? Maybe? https://www.zdnet.com/article/who-built-microsoft-typescript...

Thank you microsoft, just don't do anything stupid to the great commons and trust you have build out over the last years..

It seems a backwards causation, as in the Third World didn't get money's to build the industrial complex to support cold war era efforts, and thus in current times it became the developing countries, vs the developed ones who got all the war-mongering monies

I'm a happy user of Obsidian as other users have commented, but I must say having your Notes + IDE on the same app has its perks.

I applied but submitted my code challenge, I must say being already familiar with TypeScript/React code bases and being a heavy user of VSCode, I don't know why, but after a few months passed I found again the code challenge in my mail and just did it in an hour or so, it was really easy to set up, iterate with, and develop what was asked for.

I think it's a big enough market to have several winners, would hope so at least! should look into how to share files in between them all
