If you are looking for a plugin with good cleans as well as dirty I would say the Nolly plugin is better when compared to the Fortin Nameless, but it was a while ago that I used the trial, however I don’t remember being as in love with it as the Nolly. I had a hard time choosing between it and the Abasi plugin but I felt like Nolly shined more in a wide range of scenarios. Overall I have been very happy with it, 10/10 would recommend especially since they recently added a build in tuner. I have had some issues but I think it’s just my $30 usb interface.

Just tried it out, I don't know if I would say it sounds like a $600 tube amp especially in high gain scenarios (it really didn't like my active pickups), for a free plugin it is definitely great. In comparison to the Archetype Nolly plugin from Neural DSP it doesn't really compare, but but for something thats free and can be trained at home on custom audio samples its pretty cool.

I am about to graduate with my degree in computer engineering so I have a few good resources for you. I was in a similar position, and what really helped me was doing personal projects. Some that I can recommend are:

Ben Eaters videos on creating an 8 bit computer on a breadboard will teach digital logic, computer engineering fundamentals etc.

Building your own operating system, the osdev subreddit and wiki have many great resources to go from someone who knows c to understanding how that relates to the hardware.

Anything robotics related, working with Arduino and other microcontrollers is another big one, as that is part of any electrical and computer engineering degree.

As much as I would love for this to be real, this feels a bit too “sci-fi” and romance to be real. I was in a similar position, we started using Okta and eventually migrated to AWS Cognito. Rolling your own auth is a recipe for disaster unless you know what you are doing and really need to. Also, be prepared to be fairly locked in once you choose an auth provider, especially if you choose one that is fairly integrated into your ecosystem.

I definitely agree with you, this feels like REAL progress. I feel like this is a revolution in our understanding of how life as a collection of cells is able to function with such repeat ability and reliability. What is even more amazing is how this talk isn't even just going over our lack of understanding in this area, its saying hey everyone we just filled in this massive gap in our understanding, and look at what real things we can do with it.

It does feel like this research crosses a big line in science. Especially with the recent articles about how gene editing can cause weird defects that we don't understand, this shows we don't need to tinker at the lower levels when life already has the tools for higher level control.

Recent but great talk posted here, What Bodies Think About: Bioelectric Computation Outside the Nervous System [1] by Prof. Michael Levin. He talks about how long term low energy electrical networks between all cells in living organisms shape how the organism grows. I think what he talks about will be the future of medicine as it allows for an amazing degree of high level control over how animals grow.

These are some really cool and novel developments at improving the speed of 3d printers. While some of these might take a while (or forever) to come to desktop 3d printers its great that advancements like these are being made to push 3d printing forward.

It’s definitely possible that you couldn’t reach the speeds that they are with any kind of traditional heater cartridge. You need a lot of power directly on the filament to melt is at quickly as they are.

I would imagine they would need some kind of breakaway factor that allows the agent to decide that, despite the unpredictability, what its trying to explore might not be worth the reward, or that there is no reward behind it.

Pretty bad look for google not reporting a security incident, especially one related to personal information. Google hasn’t had a good track record recently and this seems to be showing that google has really changed for the worse. If google is willing to cover up a social media breach, what happens when my email data is breached?

I don’t know if I can trust google with my data anymore, or anyone for that matter. As much as my online data is tied to google, it might be time to remove them as painful as it might be. Anyone else done this or have any recommendations about getting away from gmail / chrome? I have used chrome and google/gmail for a long time. I have looked into Firefox previously and the only thing stopping me is the lack of multiple profiles with each having its own window, running at the same time. I usually have one personal profile, one for school and one for work and I would like to keep that setup.
