You just described the entirety of the US coal mining business. The wealthy families who owned these companies have massively benefited, but the state and federal governments are now paying entirely for the reclamation and cleanup of their mine sites.

I am absolutely with you. There’s a certain large company I work for who has public documentation full of stuff like this. It makes me insane when I find it so glaring. There’s an internal program to proofread and review, but quantity is incentivized, not quality. I’ve tried to shove that program in a better direction to no avail.
100%. I have found it sooo difficult to trace framework/library documentation down that 3-4 years ago was first few results. Something has ruined their algorithm.

While Cloud.gov had great fanfare years ago when introduced. Underneath it’s just Pivotal/CloudFoundry buildpacks and standardized security assurances. It’s exorbitantly costly for lower scale projects. Most three-letter agencies have their own security review processes on top of these assurances anyway. So the time-savings expected are quickly diminished.
Someone could do very well for our governments’ efficiency to STOP the redundant overhead in security controls currently. Preventing security teams becoming a gatekeeping police department and staffing/hiring with those more inclined to automate (SecOps) rather than to interpret policy inconsistently would be excellent.
Demand for diesel has been higher as supply chains catch up. In general you are correct, but ULSD goes through a desulfurization process which makes diesel a cleaner fuel while increasing costs.
My truck doesn’t drive near pedestrian areas. A smaller truck cannot trailer my work loads or toys. My modern diesel with high-tech emissions systems intact gets 20+ mpg unloaded.
Perhaps some of you remember trucks of the 80s. Not much has changed dimensionally, without safety improvements. Those did ~8-10 mpg unloaded while making 25% of the power with half the tow rating of a recent truck and none of the modern safety features for collision avoidance, blind spot monitoring, etc. The armchair distortion is real here. Please visit the numbers before making blanket anecdotes—the manufacturer websites have good uptime for their brochures. :)

Anecdotally, I haven’t seen a diesel that dumps soot in a long time. It would seem the kids with deleted emissions systems and smoke tunes have given up near me. Sorry this small group has affected your perception of the proper use case and larger group.

Blame your state DOT. Those trucks pay much more in taxes based upon their gross weight rating when they tow/haul. Costs of doing business.

Nobody lifts a truck conspicuously to do more work, this somewhat compromises the suspension’s ability to handle load. A lot more people would know this if they knew anything, other than some anecdotes, about the topic they want to regulate.

That’s a strange way of saying large vehicles are intended to do more work. I haven’t seen a Toyota Prius yet that can practically trailer a load of crops to market or carry construction equipment.
It’s also strange to me someone would mention tire particulate pollution in a grand comparison. The EV poster children wear through tires quicker than their comparable gasoline counterparts—softer tire compounds (road noise reduction) and weight.

That’s a rather poor assumption that every large or lifted vehicle has a modified exhaust system. The article is about inflation and fuel prices, but I assure you nobody is moving from rural to urban and expecting _less_ noise.
A comparably lifted Jeep gets the same mileage as a lifted truck. If they’re paying for it, what concern is it of yours?

I turn that horribly under-designed feature off. When the option is “wake-the-baby” loud or no alert, I choose the latter.
Thank you for being the DBA that helps devs. I found myself similarly frustrated when I was a developer. Now I work in DevOps, and I still cannot get traditional DBAs to deliver. :(
