Biggest issue is lack of transparency and law and process.

Even small business or personal disputes can get you flagged, you can't leave the country. Even if you aren't in jail or charged with any crime.

You may not even know where and how to appeal.

It is still completely rule by edict and personal relationship/connections.

The biggest issue is random arrest, randomly refuse to let you leave the country. Even if for non political reasons, if you have ANY sort of business dispute, or personal dispute (valid or not) that can get you flagged.

And totally lack of transparency regarding the process or rules.

regardless of what happened, I think given the publicity, I don't think any company will ever hire him again. Hopefully he got enough shares from Carta to retire.

So confused. According to techcrunch article, they said Kalo the CEO's old company died. But if you look at TOS of Polywork is says: "Welcome to Polywork, the website and online and/or mobile service of Kalo Industries, Inc. d/b/a Polywork (“Company,” “we,” or “us”)." So Polywork is just DBA of Kalo.

If you just move to SF or NYC, I am not sure if you'll get plugged into the network of investors immediately. Get plugged into a network takes time.

If you are doing a social network, what investors will want to see (no matter where they are from) is users (and retention rates of those users). Actually, if location matters for your product's user base, actually probably it's better to do it in a city that isn't SF or NYC. (since everyone else launch their location based networks in SF or NYC first, and so much competition, and users in SF and NYC tends to be more jaded.).

If you are a skilled developer, it shouldn't be hard to leave your day job or find a different one. If you want to work hard as a developer, you can do independent consulting gigs also.
