0. Compound interest is your friend

1. Time in market > Timing the market (you're good starting early)

2. Use bogleheads (as mentioned) but check EU specific tax avoidance strategies. Ideally, prefer tax free > tax rebate > taxable investments

3. The younger you are the more risk you can take on, go 10% crypto, 90% equities and don't worry about bonds for now or something along those lines

4. Diversify into US stock, foreign stock, bonds as time goes on rebalance.

5. Once all that is done, look at real estate and other alternative investments.

6. Dollar cost averaging is always a good idea, invest the same amount every month no matter how good or bad the markets are

7. The only caveat to #6 is when you have a lumpsum amount (bonus, etc.) the earlier you invest the more time it spends in the market the greater your returns

Wow, that's a lot of media hoopla.

Let's be real, Apple's never been a software company -- they've always made excellent hardware and good enough software that people will deal with because they want their amazing hardware. No one has ever said anything about any Apple software compared to what people say about their hardware.

Software's not in their DNA and I think all this media attention will just fade after a while and people will keep using and loving Apple hardware and putting up with their miserable software.

For the record, I use Notes/Mail/Photos on my iPhone, and Preview has never crashed for me.

How did you make $40k?

Post says TINhouse was useless and reddit has the lowest conversion rate (but still accounted for 25% of the sales).

Could your talk about the "engaging people on various forums/communities" part and where the majority of that 40k came from?

4 ways:

1. Work for a US company in the Middle East and transfer over on an L1

2. Apply to US companies and play the H1B lottery

3. Immigrate to or work for a Canadian company (work visa's are easier)

4. Get your Master's

Since you specifically asked about #4, I'll address that. You could see your MS as a glorified work visa but if you go to a top school (Stanford, Caltech, Berkely, CMU, etc.) you're getting a lot more intangible benefits as your career progresses. The network you build and the fact that your degree is from a top school are going to look fantastic on your resume and will qualify you for much better jobs. The credential still makes a difference for certain kinds of gigs.

Of course, if you start your own startup that credential is kinda useless but the network will still help.

So, my advice would be to get into a top school, if you're going to go the #4 route (especially if you can pay your way through, it's much easier) and if not, it's still not a bad way to come work in the US. There are 20k extra H1B visa's for MS degree holders which helps with the lottery as well.

Disclaimer: I came to the US to get my Master's 10 years ago and stayed.
