I was fairly skeptical about the rewrite when news about it first started going around, and I still don't plan on switching anything to use the Bun rewrite anytime soon, but I appreciate how detailed and well-written the blog post is; it also seems to be primarily human-authored, in my opinion, which is refreshing.

The most significant revelation for me was that Claude Code has been using the rewrite without much fanfare since June 17th.

Whether or not LLMs are conscious, it does now seem possible to build conscious systems with LLMs as the key enabling component.

Many of the goalposts offered here and elsewhere, like embodiment or emotions, can be and have been emulated or approximated and built around an LLM, with the LLM acting as outsourced intelligence (or cognition, or reasoning, or some other better term). Will this system be conscious? Who knows. It certainly won't be human. But I suspect much of the concern around AI being conscious has less to do with whether an LLM itself is conscious and more to do with the fact that we are now capable of building potentially conscious systems, and the limits to what those potentially conscious systems are capable of keep expanding as the capabilities of LLMs grow.

Also, is "Claude" an LLM? I know Claude Opus 4.8 is an LLM, but Claude is simply a label that Anthropic chose for a series of products and services, many of which are LLMs. Anthropic itself describes Claude as "a next-generation AI assistant" [0]. Right now, we use Anthropic's "Claude" LLMs through various channels, but nothing's stopping them from tacking on various systems to try and make Claude a conscious entity.

I wonder if the publicity around this AI-driven rewrite will function as a (unintentional, or perhaps intentional) far-reaching nerd snipe that results in Rust developers flocking to the project to identify and fix issues.

How much vCPU, memory, and storage will this have?

I used zoxide for a while before realizing that the `zi` command allows you to search for your desired destination before changing directories. I use it instead of the default `z` command the vast majority of the time now.

I haven't used PlanetScale before, but AWS Aurora limits IOPS and network performance based on your instance size, so you end up in scenarios where you really wish you had more throughput, but sizing up your instance would be a very, very expensive solution

I wonder what accounts for the gap between this and Neon's $1B price tag. Is the deal structured less favorably for Neon? Does Neon have significantly more revenue?

Seems like Neon raised a lot more venture funding, too.

I wonder what avenues there are for Harvard to challenge this; it looks like the mechanism the Trump Admin used was for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to cancel Harvard's Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification [0] which is managed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) [1].

Does ICE just have full discretion over SEVP? Can they do this to any school for whatever reason they want?

i haven't used harlequin extensively, but from what i know:

- rainfrog is more keyboard centric, and it's built around vim-like keybindings

- rainfrog has minimal requirements to run (harlequin requires python)

- harlequin supports a lot more DBs and has a lot more drivers right now

they haven't been tested as extensively as postgres though so are still considered unstable!

i've seen it but it seems like getting it to work on iOS is a pain (but i could be wrong)

the editor for issues has markdown and in-line images support, so i'm treating each issue as a page/note/doc/whatever

this may sound strange, but i've decided to try and use Linear as a personal writing tool.

i used to use Notion, but the lack of offline mode, even after all these years, made me decide to look for alternatives.

i thought about obsidian, but there are wasn't a simple, free way to sync between desktop, ios, and android all at once; Google Docs also seemed like a possibility, but it doesn't seem to have markdown support on mobile (it does in the web)

so, since Linear has a comparable free tier to Notion, great offline, and apps on all platforms.... here goes nothing

it also has support for Linux VMs and kubernetes (although i haven't tried that yet)
