Exactly that's why we should concentrate efforts on building up free alternatives. It's not that music discs, printed books and movie theater tickets were free before the advent of the PC. I believe the most important breaktrough for freedom (in regards to IT) is the personal cloud (or the houshold/street cloud).

Sun as a company may be dead, but the ideas and values can live on. It's up to the people in that culture to clarify those and live them. If they manage to do that, than Sun the company was the first era of Sun the culture and the acquisition not the end.

Let's say you absolutely want to stay in 9-5... than I would constantly propose interesting projects inside the company. That way over time I would work on more exciting stuff.

The site you would use to market your part-time contracting could later be re-used as a sort of shop for related products, so you turn it into passive income and cash in on your marketing efforts twice.

Who ever doubted we would get better and better displays over time? The exciting thing would be to get to know some of those damn user-ready products...
