The building science community has not buy and large came to the agreement that the CO2 itself is the cause of the cognitive decline. It could be the Canary in the coal mine telling us there is an accumulation of compounds causing the decline.

Why that matters? You need good ventilation regardless, but instead of just thinking of CO2, try to minimize compounds in your air by selecting things for the room that smell less and off-gas less.

Using ChatGPT without a clue, it appears to assume you are talking aboutcoming back from the car wash. It reasons, the con for walking is that you have to come back later for the car. And yes, when you say it's an intelligence test, it quickly gets it

This game started slow for me many years ago but I now absolutely love this game. Not just because of all the open source effort that has gone into it, because of the strategy. You have to make yourself vulnerable to get stronger.

Wanna grow fast? Train workers who can't fight, but are resource efficient to make. Risk being badly weakened if getting attacked, for the benefit of the workers giving you much more resources to then raise an army.

I agree with the prepackaging aspect, cita HN's dismissal of Dropbox. In the meantime, The global enterprise with all its might has not been able to stop high profile computer hacks/data leaks from happening. I don't think people will cry over a misconfigured supabase database. It's nothing worse than what's already out there.

Sure everybody wants security and that's what they will say but does that really translate to reduced inferred value of vibe code tools? I haven't seen evidence

An initially-stupid-sounding idea I heard a while back was running power cables through the ocean floors between America and the rest of the world. It's apparently feasible and the big benefit of it is that at the grid peak hour when the sun is not shining in Europe, they can get cheap solar from America and vice versa

The problem is that most of the AI labs are popping up in TX that has a uniquely isolated electrical grid. Recall how the Texas cold snap a few years ago took down the grid for days. Turns out if you make a grid based on short term profit motifs, it's not going to be flexible enough to take new demand.

It's not the grid's technological limitation. We could have lived in a world with a more connected grid, more nibble utility commissions, and a lot less methane/carbon emissions as a result of it

When they launched Sora, one of the first things people did was rendering a person holding a cardboard with a message on it. It started by asking for features and eventually turned into people responding to each other.

One conversation I remember was complaining about people who constantly want AI pictures of anime feet.

I think OpenAI is just responding to the users.

This is my cue to come and say that if you want to purify your home air, please look at the science first. Do NOT just go buy a HEPA. Chances are you'll waste your money and get little clean air.

Look for MERV and CADR ratings for filters. Then spend an afternoon building yourself a CR box with a box fan, or a narrower one with some computer fans. It'll work better than most commercial purifiers.

I don't know if it's selection/survivor bias, but every time I watch a video about computers from the 60s and 70s, I am amazed how spot on they are with the trajectory of the technology.

Then the 80s and 90s rolled in, the concept is computers that entered the mainstream. Imagination got too wild with movies like Electric Dreams (1984).

Videos like this make me think that our predictions of AI super intelligence are probably pretty accurate. But just like this machine, in actuality it may look different.

In the couple of prompts I gave it, it's better than the last version but I feel that Google is sacrificing quality for the sake of speed. While it's a lot faster, the output is not as good as OpenAI.

Meanwhile Veo3 is far better than the OpenAI's equivalent. I assume speed is not a priority there; both take their time.

I'm not sure what's forbidden here. You don't need 100% relative humidity to grab water from the air in fact in any wood has a moisture content that in equilibrium is in relation to the air moisture content. The moisture diffuses into every material and evaporates based on where it finds less vapor pressure. That's why you may have dry lips at 40% RH versus moisturized lips at 70% RH.

What you're referring to is condensation and is caused by air oversaturation due to a temperature drop which doesn't seem to be the case here.

Theoretically speaking, you can have a material that somehow absorbs high moisture from the air but has microscale properties that promote creation of droplets then somehow these droplets are separated from the rest of the air (with something like a smart vapor retarder, a passive material) and the water gets harvested.

This company however is using it for the facade of the building not the structure, which is kind of a yellow flag. Many fancy headquarter buildings are after some novelty to show off.
